Blais was playing 2nd line in STL, and although he isn't a top 6 forward yet, putting him there creates the best line balance. You don't HAVE to play the 6 best players in the top 6 spots if that doesn't work best for the team. Putting A.M on the 3rd line creates more depth and makes the 3rd line more of a force than otherwise.

As for the other contracts - CGY is big on giving guys a 2nd chance. Look at how many PTOs they had this year, and even the year before this. Given that Okposo and Seabrook are the obvious buyouts on their teams and are still NHLers, I see no reason not to try them out on short contracts. You can adjust the AAV accordingly.

Im not saying that Okposo and Seabrook are bad targets or anything, I just think that's too much money going to them for pseudo PTO's. They are still making 100% of their old contracts and I would be surprised if they are greedy for another 3M. Personally I would like to try and nab Toffoli off the free market. Even with a CBO Vancouver is going to have a tough time signing him and he has some solid connections with Monahan in CGY. He's also a solid 2-way player and would fit well with Backlund and Tkachuks style of play
