If you’re gonna buyout Bobby Ryan, why not just buyout Loui Eriksson in the first place?

Yeah. Bobby Ryan has $11m in salary left; Eriksson has $8m. So it would be cheaper to buyout Eriksson. Eriksson's buyout caphit would also be lower than Ryan. It makes no sense to swap them, unless the idea is to not buy them out, in which case it would be $3m cheaper for Ottawa. Maybe Ottawa sends a pick back. But that wouldn't be worth it for Canucks anyhow as it just adds to their cap.

An issue to also keep a close eye on too is a hypothetical, non-CBO buyout of either Loui/Ryan may cause a cash crunch w/ future RFAs Hughes/Pett contracts next season (approx. US$6 to 8M of dead money could be on VANs books as buyout/recapture/buries etc.).
