Description

Severson is the right age, right contract, right skill, right shot guy that TOR could be looking to add.

Could a 3-way deal with these bones work for all 3 teams?

My thoughts:

Severson for Kapanen straight up isn’t on par with market for proven dmen in their prime. And I’ve seen plenty of “Johnsson for a 3rd rounder to anywhere” deals on here. So the all in deal is basically a question of whether: $2.4M cap space + prospect + 5th rounder is worth the equivalent of a 3rd rounder plus the Severson premium to Kapanen.

That answer is an auto “yes” in my books.

CGY converts Gaudreau and Kylington into a #10 overall pick, plus two middle 6 forwards. I’ll take it.

but we get severson. In general Kapenan may have to go to bring a guy like Severson back. In general Calgary has been linked with Kapenan for 2 years now so if they managed to get Severson then trade him for Kapenan I would take that as Severson would be great for the leafs.

If calgary did that for the leafs I would send their gm a "Thank you card" cause NJ would probs demand Kap+Liligren for Severson. Not only would it be cheaper for the leafs but we get a Top 4RHD at the cost of Kapenan.

TOR is going to have to pay a fair price to get a great dman on a great contract. There are more good forwards in the league than good dmen, it’s always been that way. Dmen always command a quality premium. It’s not changing soon.
