Worst-Case
The bottom line - the Devils do not sign/acquire any significant talent for a few reasons:
- This team currently has no coach
- This team currently has no official GM (interim Tom Fitzgerald - I'd like to see him hired before a coach)
- The team isn't good enough to sign top UFA talent (Barrie/Pietrangelo or Hoffman/Dadonov/Toffoli) without a massive overpayment and long-termontract
- Even if they landed one of the above - it really won't make too much difference in terms of the team's outlook (they won't make the playoffs this offseason, no matter how much we cheer them on).
- Last year, there was tremendous pressure to acquire talent in order to try to convince Hall to stay. While there is certainly a need to bounce back, I don't see the Devils making a splash if it means giving up picks/prospects.
- The common strategy is take on bad contracts to acquire players (Neal, Russell, Boychuk, etc) to get players/picks - I love this strategy, but I wonder how willing a low-revenue team is likely to take on bloated contracts... please weigh in.

All this said, I think it's possible that NJ heads into the season with a roster looking like this.

Apologies for all the negativity. I am excited about the upcoming draft and the possibility of hiring either Laviolette or Gallant. I am very surprised that something hasn't been done. What are your thoughts on who, when, and impact?
