Description

Buyout Maatta as I don't think the Hawks will be able to make a trade worth it instead of buying him out.

Either buyout or trade Smith depending on whether or not Shaw plays next season as his concussion history has made it unlikely he'll play next season. If so, Shaw will go on LTIR (thanks Stan for trading away a 2nd and a 3rd).

Re-sign Cagg for less because of his concussion history.

Sign Namestikov for some more middle-6 scoring.

Bing-bang-boom, the Hawks are on their way to being 5th in the Central next year.

Namestnikov is not needed. Caggs (signs for around $1.75M) can play up on the 3rd line no problem and Highmore should be a lock for the 4th line.

Kubalik I'm betting gets closer to $4m on either a 1 year or 3 year deal as 2 year deals would be bad with Dach and Boqvist expiring in 2 years also.

I meant to put it at 3 years for Kubalik, but I agree that he probably ends up closer to $4m than $3m. I signed Namestnikov because I wasn't sure if Caggiula was going to be sturdy enough to play most of the season, especially with his concussion issues. I also don't think he'll be worth too much, especially since he's never played a full season and he only played a half season this year. Same with Shaw, if it comes out that he'll retire then I would sign someone like Namestnikov to make up for the loss of depth scoring. If he comes back, then we don't sign Namestnikov and hope that Cagguila and Shaw can play at least a combined 82. I wouldn't mind looking to our new signings or Rockford for the 4th line as I'm not convinced of Highmore's offensive impact being good enough to consider him a lock.
