Description
The Flyers are stacked with defensive prospects. Unfortunately, by the time Ghost, Prov, Sanheim, Morin and Hagg are ready to form a defense that is a legit Cup contender (3-4 years minimum), Claude and Wayne will be over 30. Trading them now makes long-term sense even if it hurts for the time being. Having roughly $27 million in cap space next year will ease some of the pain.

The price for Voracek is much greater than that. Nichuskin hasn't proven a damn thing, and Eakin is a third liner at best which the Flyers do not need.. Ehlers is going to need to be paid in 2 years and Simmonds is one of the best bargains in the league. Trouba is going to be expensive as is Ghost so resigning those young D would be a cap challenge, last thing we need is another young d man. I'd rather have every one of those Flyers over any of those players.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but on more than one occasion you've suggested Voracek be left unprotected. I agree that if he's traded now Philly is selling low. Nich is young, big , fast and can play. Eakin is a good depth player which The Flyers need. They'd also be shedding an $8 million cap hit. Simmonds is a bargain. That's why he gets you a top center. Trouba is already paid in this scenario, so signing Ghost next year and Ehlers 2 years from now is not an issue. Like I said in the description $27 million in cap space next year.

I have suggested leaving Voracek unprotected depending on how he does this year but Nich hasn't proven **** and the Flyers do not need a depth 3rd liner. As for the D I mean we won't be able to pay Provorov and Sanheim if they both prove to be really good. Hard to have 4-5 D men making 5 mil a year. As for Ehlers, you are trying to set this team up for the future well he will need to be paid in that future. RNH is injury prone and hasn't shown an ability to improve on point totals. IMO every player from the Flyers is better than the return.

That's what bridge deals are for. By the time all the youngins are being paid big money AMac, Read, Raffle, Weisse are all gone. Giroux's numbers have gone down the last two years. In three years Simmonds will be half the player he is now. Like I said in the description; it makes long-term sense, even if it hurts for the time being.
