  4. 2017 1st round pick (ANA)
  5. 2017 3rd round pick (ANA)
Additional Details:
This is not a complete solution to their cap issue, nor is that my concern. Pittsburgh still had cap moves to make after acquiring Kessel.
ANA
  1. Gauthier, Frédérik
  2. Hunwick, Matt
  3. van Riemsdyk, James
Additional Details:
Conditional 2nd round pick from Bernier Trade returned to Ducks

Patterned after the Kessel Trade to Pittsburgh
3.
TOR
  1. Wideman, Dennis
Additional Details:
Cap space is pretty much equal. Calgary has ~ 40 contracts prior to trade.
CGY
  1. Corrado, Frank
  2. Greening, Colin
  3. Holland, Peter
  4. Leivo, Josh
Additional Details:
Patterned after the Grabner trade with the Islanders. Leafs dump contracts they do not have room for to a team low on contracts. The return is an overpriced UFA.

Filppula doesn't waive to go to TOR... unless Babcock gives him a big, bear hug.

Some good comparisons. But the Kessel trade: It was a salary dump of a 8m a year player for 7 years. In your trade JVR is just 4.5m years for two years.
Leafs may not have got value as player that Kessell displayed in Pittsburg, but obviously Phil was going to cap drag to the Leafs with his play. Good for the Pens and Phil that Kessel found his game and himself.
