Description
Following up on the feedback from the last one and ignoring the unproductive comments, let's try again. And yes, still trading Reinhart primarily because I really don't want to spend what he's going to want on a guy who doesn't drive play. No guarantee he wants to stay here long term either so that's not a given. I'm guessing it's bridge or trade. Maybe arbitration. I'd rather have that money for Dahlin & Jokiharju.

Let's assume Ristolainen is only worth a 4th round pick like some people seem to think. Fine, Buffalo keeps him. Krueger seems to like him anyway.

Lots of cap space so could add some depth via free agency if desired (instead of the scratches). Did I leave enough room to sign Dahlin & Jokiharju? Almost $15M off the books so it should be.

Trades
1.
BUF
  1. 2020 2nd round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
Winnipeg needs D. If they don't want Risto who would probably fair better out west...well, send Montour back west. No way is he worth 10 OA so a 2nd is your best bet. With no cap certainty, that's probably about it.
WPG
  1. Montour, Brandon [RFA Rights]
2.
BUF
  1. Compher, J.T.
  2. Kaut, Martin
  3. Timmins, Conor
  4. 2020 1st round pick (COL)
Additional Details:
As promised, still trading Reinhart. Let's start with this: THEY AREN'T TRADING NEWHOOK FOR REINHART. Maybe 1-for-1. Moving on.

I'm still picking Compher over Donskoi at the moment. He seems like a Krueger guy. Hard working, defensively sound. Flexibility at RW/C. This time I'm bringing him in as an RW who can sub at 3C or even 2C if Dvorak doesn't work out as planned or if Cousins isn't ready. It also gives Cousins more defensive help as he learns center at the NHL level.

The late first is the late first. Some value but not much.

Now the big question: the third piece? Not Newhook. We know that much. I don't see them trading Graves as great as that would be. Sticking with Kaut and switching from Bowers to Timmins. Not moving Byram and I think I've addressed center sufficiently.

Any more than this is an overpay for Reinhart. Argue not trading him but he's not worth more than this. If the 1st was better that it's going to end up this would be an overpay.
COL
  1. Reinhart, Sam [RFA Rights]
3.
BUF
  1. Dvorak, Christian
  2. Raanta, Antti
Additional Details:
Same basic idea here except reducing the scope. Don't use 8 OA as Dvorak and a Raanta/Hutton swap were Buffalo takes all the money doesn't get that done. So a late first and an early second for Dvorak and one year of an injury prone Raanta (not much value) in exchange for a retained Hutton. Drop Hinistroza obviously.

Previous thoughts:
A young cost controlled center to stop-gap at 2C for Cozens with upside plus one year of an injury prone rental goalie to time-share with Ullmark as we continue to try to figure out what he is.

With an owner in the casino business who is likely hurting financially right now, I think they go the Ottawa route so they're not going to want to move picks and will be motivated to bring in picks for cheap, controllable talent going forward.

Hutton goes back purely as a cap dump but not much of one due to the retention.
ARI
  1. Hutton, Carter ($1,000,000 retained)
  2. 2020 1st round pick (COL)
  3. 2020 2nd round pick (BUF)

Yeah, i think you shouldve realized by now that you arent going to appease both sides here.

From COL standpoint, the cost for Reinhart is now too much.

Kaut out now creates a hole on RW in the bottom 6 (eventually middle 6F in 2-3years)
Timmins out creates a hole in the bottom 4D (eventually in the #2RHD spot 1-2 years)
Compher creates a hole in the 3C/ third line

COL could go to UFA and sign at good top 6F for the cost of just cap space, without giving up all these pieces..

Don't care about the comment above (not yours, the one above that). He hates all ideas that aren't his own and his own are pretty bad.. Typical Buffalo sports fan. Do you do the deal without Timmins? I would.

Ok, not gonna bother doing it again but that's where I'll leave this one! Thanks for the patience and actual feedback.

The Coyotes trade isn’t happening in a million years. Not even 8OA gets that trade done. Dvorak is not getting traded and he’s worth far more than the spare parts Buffalo fans keep posting in the name of “cap savings”
