Description
This lineup is simply being used for cap calculations. The teams and returns are completely arbitrary and not meant as serious offers.

This is again based on the Rossi/Yohe reports of a possible Rust trade and bringing in Tanev to see how could possibly pull this off.

So please, when commenting realize this is to figure out the math. It was reported the return for Rust would need to be an NHL Ready Player, which needs more clarity, but I'm going on the idea it's meant a player on an ELC that's ready to play.

For those who didn't read the article:

- JR would need an "NHL Ready player plus a top prospect" to move Rust, but does NHL ready player mean an player on an ELC or just a bottom-six cheaper-than-Rust player?
-Jarry is likely to get closer to $4M than $3M
-Tanev wants $5M/5 years, but JR would try to sell him on cheaper cost of living and playing with his brother.

If Tanev doesn’t sign for 4 million or less on a 5 year contract, then GMJR needs to stay away.

Well the point of this is to see if he can even make it work at $5M and he can't. He would have to move out other contracts and we certainly know it won't be JJ. Moving out Hornqvist only destroys the forward depth even further since whatever is left over to buy a winger certainly wont' be enough to get someone of quality for the top-six, leaving Pettersson being the next up with value, and man, if bringing in Tanev means we lost Rust and Pettersson? I have no words.

Agreed. The only way he can bring in Tanev is moving Hornqvist and keeping rust. I get the idea of trading rust at his career high, but even if he regresses this year by 25% of his production this past year, he is still a solid 2nd liner at an amazing cap hit. I don’t think Hornqvist can handle the 2nd line minutes and still be productive. I think taking on less minutes is what helped him last year.

Moving Hornqvist out also would be very difficult in terms of dumping salary and if he pulled it off he'd basically be robbing Peter to pay Paul. Tanev isn't BAD, but he's not nearly what he was, so now you're overpaying an aging player for the dcore instead of the forwards. It just seems like far too much work to fill a need that's the furthest thing from a need. IMO improving the third line is paramount.
