Description
Target : Domi for a top 6 winger, 3rd RD and 4th center, Smith being a bonus here (replacing Byron).

Smith's agent says he'll aim for 3 years contract. Evolving-Hockey has him at 4.1m for 3 years. Make it 4m with bonus in the contract. He has wonderful advanced stats this year (+3.41 expected goals for & 2.2 WAR, 3rd in his team) and has been steady for years. With him, MTL would have 3 great lines and we know Julien likes to use all its line, so let's get them strong.

Edmundson was signed to play with Petry (he wanted a big body and a reliable partner). Julien likes Chiarot+Weber so if he keeps this duo, that leaves Romanov with a young partner at RD in Juulsen or Fleury (or Mete/Kulak). A 3rd pair RD could be a target this offseason

Richardson could be replaced by Thompson or even Grant. Solid on faceoff, good in its own zone and playoff experiences. Evans is two-way for his 1st year and doesnt have to go throught waivers. I'm pretty sure Bergevin would want experience on its 4th line : he knows Julien loves that.

IMO this team makes the playoff for the 2 next years. No cap problem in 21-22 : https://www.capfriendly.com/armchair-gm/team/1953275

Trades
1.
MTL
  1. Miller, Colin
Additional Details:
BUF resigns Montour and use him at RD with Risto + Jokiharju.
MTL would target Miller to give Romanov a reliable partner (Bergevin didn't show lots of trust in Kulak)
BUF
  1. Byron, Paul
Additional Details:
BUF gets the better player. The 3rd year of Byron is why Bergevin would want to trade him.
2.
ANA
  1. Domi, Max [RFA Rights]
  2. Mete, Victor [RFA Rights]
Additional Details:
Domi signs 5.8m / 5 years
Mete signs 1.8m / 2 years. ANA has room at RD, Mete can fill.

Some scouts (like Proman) still see some potential in Mete. He could bring more offensively than he did in ANA. While he's good at D, he'll always lose some battle due to his size.

Domi can be given a center position. He can also move to wing to fill the same role than Rakkel. Both players have similar value

I like the fact that the 2 acquisitions are signed for only 2 years. That's the window.

You would need to add value on both trades because of Byron injuries and Mete exposure to the expansion draft.

Craig Smith singning all the way!!!

Byron kept a 0,25 goals per game for the past 4 years and he's reliable at defense (and on PK). He got injured the last 2 season but hopefully he came back strong last year.

He's certainly not a cap dump, but his AAV lowers his value. 3.4m is fair but the 22-23 year could be a risk.

I think a trade around Miller and Byron is fair cause Miller is also slightly overpaid.
