I would prefer Grabner tbh, with Rieder and Janko leaving we could use another PKer. Leivo isn’t a bad depth option for cheap though

I think Gawdin will become a fixture on the PK rather quickly. Grabner has made enough money, wouldn't be surprised if he chooses a cup contender or a warm climate team to ride off into the sunset.

The team has almost no RHS, Leivo could be a really good signing with the potential to score you 10+ in a bottom 6 role.

I just think it might be a mistake to assume Gawdin makes the team. I think he’ll compete for a spot but he has yet to play an NHL game so idk if he’ll for sure have a spot. Grabner can still put up 15-20 goals and is a speedy PKer in the mold of Rieder and he’ll come cheap because he was just bought out, so that’s why I think he’d fit better than Leivo, although I wouldn’t mind Leivo either way (Toronto keeps signing bottom six guys that can play in the NHL, why shouldn’t we in case of a taxi squad as well?). I’d like to add an established NHL penalty killer if we’re gonna try and go on a run though

There was talk that Gawdin was going to be in the lineup in the return to play, unfortunately, a high-ankle sprain derailed that. I think it's very, very likely he cracks the opening night lineup. He agreed to sign for less than his qualifying offer, which tells me there might be a little "wink-wink, nudge-nudge". He scratched the teams back, they scratch his.

Grabner kinda scares me to. He's 33, with a game based on speed. The last two seasons he's really fallen off too. In 19/20 he posted the lowest pt/g of his career. I''d rather look at Melker Karlsson, younger, versatile and again, a RHS

I get that about Grabner, I just think he’s probably gonna be the cheapest option, and he can still put the puck in the net a decent amount for a 4th liner. I wouldn’t mind M. Karlsson, or Nordstrom, or really anyone that we can get for league min or close to it that can handle themselves on the PK, I just think that’s a weak spot for us with Rieder and Janko gone and we should look at signing 1-2 more depth forwards. If we don’t sign anybody new (just keep our own guys) that means we have two roster spots dedicated to two of Robinson, Rinaldo, or Gawdin at all times. Ngl I would rather have one spot for those three to battle for, plus an extra depth guy (shame Quine left) and the other roster spot filled by a full-time NHL depth guy (Leivo works, any of the PK guys I mentioned work, and I’m sure there are a couple other interesting options among non-qualified RFAs, like Kahun). Idk about that theory, I think he signed league min because Tre is a hardass negotiator and he doesn’t have an NHL game played yet lol, if he makes the team that would be great, we could really use a guy who might be able to supply decent depth scoring and two-way play.
