The Plekanec trade looks suspiciously like, I'm trading a buy with big cap hit, so I can get players I want. Wings can't afford the 6m Plekanac next year.

Whos to say they dont trade away some players? Plekenecs is a decent 2nd line center and they want to keep the streak alive.

The Plekanec convo is moot anyway. Detroit can't take on 6m in salary without giving something up. If they trade some players, they'll have to trade a heck of a lot in order to get 6M of extra space. So yeah maybe they could add Pat Kane but they'd have to trade half their team away to make space. Is it possible? Yes. Plausible? No.

What i like less is the fact that we're giving Plekanec, DLR and a 3rd for Bozak, a 2nd and a 3rd. Why is MTL doing this? We're saving a bit of cap but whether you like it or not we're getting the lesser good player too.

The Beaulieu trade is nice but I'm pretty sure Anaheim will want a winger instead of another dman. They are literally overflowing with Dmen depth already.

The trades work out so we are basically giving Plekenec, Beaulieu and DLR for Fowler and Bozak. Maybe we are getting the lesser player, but Bergevin is always thinking about the future and these trades help with that

The Fowler deal would be a no go, Bob Murray is seeking a top 6 LW for Fowler not another D man that he doesn't need.
