Why does BUF decline? They get a young LD with term, where they’re thin, and a ufa goalie to be who is hardly owed any real salary for the last 1/3 of the season. They wouldn’t have to retain any on Montour since the cap hits are similar, get a roster player with term AND save real cash. They’d be dumb to turn that down for a rental. Hell, they could probably flip Reimer to COL for much better than a 6th.

Not enough for Rakell

Fleury is a bust and Reimer is a pending UFA.

Neither player is of any use to Buffalo beyond this season.

For Montour, the Sabres will asking for a 2nd if teams are interested or a 3rd if teams are not interested.

Fleury would be easily the best dman on this crappy roster. Montour ain't re-signing with Sabres though so if they wanna let him go for peanuts I'm ok.

Also nobody in the world would overpay for Rakell

Fleury has not lived up to 7OA, but he’s certainly not a bust. BUF isn’t getting a 2nd for Montour.
