Paul Byron

Hi Habs fans,

Byron seems like a decent player but I agree he is overpaid. If the Habs were to give a 2nd round pick for Bryon, the Devils would do that. Maybe even a trade in the summer, Byron and 2 2nds for Butcher. I highly doubt the Devils would give up anything of value for Byron unless they are getting picks/prospects back.

I wouldn't dump Byron tbh. Tonight he's been one of the best player for MTL (with like Anderson). He brings energy and speed. He's clearly not a top liner but when injuries occurs he's like the way to go for a quick replacement.

I don't see Byron taking a spot from one of our young players though. Next year we have Holtz, Mercer, Foote, and more all coming up. I doubt Ruff saves a spot for Byron

I like Byron, I think many people forget that he was a consistent 20 goal scorer prior to last season. His offensive abilities ofent get overlooked because of his defensive acumen and PK abilities. Byron's average shooting percentage is often above 10% and his career average is 17.1%. Byron just doesn't shoot as much as guys like Gallagher and Toffoli who's shooting percentages are 10.1% and 10.8% for their careers respectively. Gallagher averages 206 shots per season Toffoli 189 where as Byron averages just 49.5 shots per season over his career. Those stats are a bit inflated because from 16-17 to 18-19 he was taking close to 100 shots per season. What does all of this say about Byron. Well Paul will never be an elite goal scorer but he is elite with his shot selection. One more Stat to put this all into perspective Ovi's career S% is 12.8% Crosby's is 15.5% McDavid is 15.0 and MacKinnon is 10.0% in fact Byron is the only one of any players named in this post to have had a S% above 20% and he has done it 4 times over his career. Tell me now Byron is overpaid!
