The idea here is to initially dump some contracts for picks/prospects.

Retool with some faster and younger players.

Bring a few young bloods up to assist in that retool.

Trade Vanecek before draft, expose Oshie. Sign a faster, younger Coleman. Replace Kuzy with a defensive minded Danault with scoring wingers.

We'd be over the moon if Meloche and a mid-round pick were all it took to get Vanecek. Probably not realistic, but I could see him and Korenar being a good (if green) Czech goalie tandem.

I feel ya, I'm not as high on Vanecek as I was. His numbers are pretty mediocre, and the Caps need to get a deal done fast or lose him for nothing in the expansion draft. That looks to be what will happen if no trade happens before.
