Marner Is A Misunderstood Player

I’ve been seeing a lot of really aggressive takes made towards Mitch Marner after the Leafs lost. I understand people are mad at him and that he played very poorly, but you’re ripping him for the wrong reasons.

The guy didn’t struggle cuz he is lazy, lacks heart and doesn’t care. I actually thought he did his best to contribute for the team, but he simply isn’t good enough ability wise. This accounts for both mental and physical ability.

He can’t handle the pressure of playing for Toronto in the playoffs. A lot of the mistakes he’s made are psychological. For example, he’s fumbling the puck whenever he receives it, sending passes wide of his intended target and taking bonehead delay of game penalties.

I also believe he is playing way over his head. He’s a 2nd line complimentary forward at best but is being paid superstar money.

What he needs is a complete reset. Maybe the Leafs can terminate that contract after paying off the rest of his bonuses and he can sign with a deep team at under 5 million dollars. I’m sure he can succeed in the right circumstances and this simply isn’t it.
