This is a mix of all the wonderful things I've seen during my time on the website.
From all the hot off the press sources Petey gets $7250000 for 3 years and Huggy gets some random number and term. I personally like $6 million for 2 or 3 years.
Hakanpaa would be a great add as like a Benn/Fantenberg 7th guy who can help Rathbone, Juolevi, and Chatfield earn minutes rather than having minutes earn them. In the same vane I would prefer to plunder Nosek from the Vegas cap hogs over retaining Sutter, as much as I like the guy.
Hawryluk I thought looked good at times and he works fine as a Granlund playing the 13th forward. If you get it you get it.
I think Hamonic is the best leaving UFA, but he isn't worth over $2 mil for us. I actually think Edler could be very useful playing a 3rd pairing role. When he plays too much and against good players, he is a slug. If they can be had for cheap, retain both. We actually can afford it if we're smart.
I'm team send Loui packing. The 2nd year cap hit sucks but the almost $900,000 savings allows us the flexibility to add someone who can contribute which I think we'll need this year.
I sign Schnieds for the memes - although he actually has a great history with Ian Clark. Maybe theres a fit there. Anyway, with Holts and Mikey gone, we take a serious look at Wallstedt but maybe use one of our remaining picks for a guy. Silovs is supposed to be the real deal too. Corey is supposed to represent a generic guy (CHEAP) that Clark likes that can play backup.
Seattle:
F: Petey, Boeser, Miller, Horvat, Pearson, Motte, Kerfoot
D: Kempny, Schmidt, Juolevi (Francis does not rid us of Myers unfortunately. I think Benning would probably protect him anyway.)
G: Thatch
Seattle has the option of Highmore, Bowey, Lind, Gadjovich... Ugh. They take Lind I guess. Whatever.
After all the dust settles, we end up with a bit of space to try this whole "depth" thing in Goodrow, who has been really valuable for Tampa. He can skate, hit, put up the odd point, and play 3C if the sudden wealth of options aren't working.
It's fun to play around with line combinations once this whole thing is set up. I for one would love to see Petey Podz and Hog have a go together.
The following year we would have about $15 million in space to try to sign a better D man, resign Boeser, and maybe look to add another top 6 forward. Hopefully by then either Kent Johnson, Mason McTavish, Brandt Clarke etc. are able to add to the team too.
I think there's a universe where Risto is added to the Devils for some reason and the door to Severson is opened. The universe where we get out from under Holtby is one I'd be happy to live in.
If you want to roast me in the comments, here is a good opportunity. I've seen this guy leave town for everything from a bag of pucks to Connor McDavid. I think he is a guy that excels in a bottom 6 role as a possession driver.
As Ian Clark hoses us for a 5 year deal, we trade his son for some help up front. Roussel is actually maybe useful when he's healthy. At $2 mil for 1 year, Toronto loses a guy they seem to want to get rid of and get cheaper and get feistier.
Schneider retired I believe. Who would be your second choice for backup goalie?
I thought he was thinking of playing 3rd string for the isles? A Google I should make but won't haha.
That's a really tough question. I think part of the appeal to having Ian Clark is that he is great at identifying goalie talent, so I'd definitely defer to whoever he thought could get it done.
I don't really know what I'm talking about, but in my opinion of course Driedger would probably be the guy, but a bit too much money for us. I think Rittich would be dirt cheap and could play a few games. I wonder how much Freddy Andersen will make, if he's dirt cheap, he would be a really good backup I feel.
We have no one on the right
Carrick is a UFA and will probably sign elsewhere
If we get Risto for a similar return we got Murray it's an easy yes
Severson is not available bc we got Risto, just sayin
