calgary isn’t gonna give up a 3rd for a backup, we’ll sign one of the veteran backups available for under 2mil or worst case just bring back domingue

this isn’t my real prediction of the penguins 2022 team. this is my dream/ideal team. this is assuming that COVID-19 didn’t exist, and the cap would increase by 2 million every year. GMRH has expressed that the top 6 is the last of his concerns, so tatar would automatically be a no go.

that makes sense. i don’t really feel like a veteran is needed to be brought in for someone who’s already a proven starter in the league, but i can see someone who can play a 1a/1b role signing. The Penguins as well need a veteran to split with Jarry, but as i felt CGY being the most accurate spot for DeSmith, I chose them and for similar reasons you explained. thank you for your comment too!

Yeah if DeSmith was a free agent it would make sense, I just don’t see Calgary giving up an asset to acquire a good backup, especially because Markstrom is such a workhorse that they won’t play much anyway. I said veteran mostly because those are the types of guys that are UFAs and nobody internal can fill the role (I don’t think Zagidulin’s ready yet and he’s closest). A cheap backup that won’t cost any assets, just a little money, is probably the route the Flames take.
