Description

I'm totally expecting to get ripped apart on this one but was just throwing it out there. Tampa needs to do some serious cap gymnastics and the Oilers need some additional depth/experience for the playoffs. This would clear all the salary required in one move for Tampa.

I get the Kassian contract wouldn't be appetizing for Tampa but it's significantly less AAV and could be flipped to a 3rd party for less cost than the Johnson contract. Less of a poison pill for Tampa.

I do realize that's an issue. Tampa will have to deal with that as all the non-core high AAV contracts have trade protection. It would for sure be a shock to move from Tampa to Edmonton haha. There are a lot worse situations than Edmonton out there. I'd just be hoping that there'd be some lure for guys like Killorn or Palat (entering contract year) to play with McDavid/Draisaitl if they're going to be traded anyways. Johnson has already been on waivers so seeing the writing on the wall he might take the opportunity to get a fresh start elsewhere.
