Maybe if he wins 3 more cups and 2 more norris trophies, oh wait he only has 2 years left on his deal and will likley retire at the end of it. And oh wait, Mcjesus shrinks in the playoffs anyways (he's still awesome, but not as good as the regular season)

You do realize hawks aren’t completely off the hook yet of Keith salary. It’s completely possible that he only intends to play one more season which does add up to the cost to acquire from oilers perspective if that proves to be the case hawks get hit with recapture penally which explains why stan wouldn’t retain because he’s going to get hit later with that. Talking about a guy who turns 38 tomorrow and has been paid out the majority of his contract already can’t say that isn’t in the cards.
