Description
This team is so hard to predict the lines for, and I know Habs fans will claim their thought is the best... there's just too many good wingers around. I really think one will be dealt at the deadline pending injuries, potentially for a center rental if necessary. Ultimately I think this team seriously contends for a wild card spot with TOR and BOS, but it will be very tough.

I think the top line is an absolute lock and should not change unless there are serious issues. I put Drouin with Evans for center assignment reasons. I'm expecting the top 3 lines to get relatively similar TOIs, and outside of those two stipulations, the wingers are all fairly interchangeable. Poehling is the X-factor here... I kind of wouldn't want him playing on the 4th line, but it's not like that's a "normal" 4th line. I have Pacquette there for better faceoffs and two-way play for now. Ultimately if Poehling will be in the line up, I'd probably rather have him as the 3C. Barring an injury or serious struggles with Evans, I don't think he cracks the opening night lineup, but do expect him to make appearances throughout the year.

On defense, I'm expecting Edmundson and Petry to play majority of the minutes, with the next two pairs fairly equally splitting the rest. And in that, I'm splitting up the two veterans to play with the younger guys. Romanov is "the future" anyway, and Chiarot is probably unlikely to be signed, so I want him playing with his future partner in Savard.

Byron may be put on LTIR, but he's probably coming back, so I kept him off for now to make the cap work. I'm not really sure he cracks the lineup unless there are other injuries anyway

i agree with basically everything said. I dothink for poehling is either 3c or he is scratched, i think he could thrive on a line with anderson and drouin. I'm not worried about ice time if he is slotted into the 4th line, because they roll 4 lines so well, my main concern if he played there is the amount of defensive zone face offs and match up he would have, i dont think his game is there yet to take on that responsibility and evans is 100% up to that. D pairings are what i would like to see, wideman can be swapped out for kulak depending on who does more to earn that spot but i like the rest.

Thank you. I know every fan base has it's people and I'm not trashing the Habs in general, but sometimes you gotta scratch your head at what gets said on here... had a dude go on for days about how Hoffman will play on the 4th line because he "can't play defense", for example lmao.

Ya that sounds about right. obviously hoffman is either in the top 6 or watching from a box. Unfortunately you are right every fan base has those people and the larger the fan base the more of those people you get to deal with.

I think that Hoffman-Dvorak-Gallagher line is going to play alot like tatar-danault-gally did before last season. Dvorak a better goal scorer than danault also say they may even have more success.

Wouldn't it be then smarter to play Chiarot higher in the lineup as we cld then trade him at the deadline for a package similar to what Dillon got. Putting him on the bottom pair is pretty much saying you're fine letting him walk out the door at the end of the year for nothing.

I'm going based off the team contending til the end, in which they'll need Chiarot. Unless they could potentially trade him for another defenseman that has term, but that seems fairly unlikely. Easily swap out Chiarot and Romanov, though. I feel like Chiarot has been in the league long enough that his value is already set in stone regardless
