ya i dont get how anyone can think that, the Atlantic is stacked and even with some players taking major steps forward i see the habs finishing bottom 2 in the division most likely.

How is it a doomed season? there still very much in their rebuild going to get to see a lot of young players get solid ice time this year its the next step in the process. No one is going into this season with the mind set the habs are a playoff team

Fully agree, Islanders arent going to move a key piece of their current core and on the flip side for MTL just hold with the rebuild thats a lot of assets to move out to fill a hole that you just spent the 5th overall pick filling. Patience is needed on their end but I do think that's more than a fair offer value wise in the package but i wouldnt be including Armia's cap dump in there if anything include Savard to fill the roster spot temporarily and clear some cap for mtl.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>xercuses</b></div><div>Gio did it tbf, but i feel he either stays and tampa or they use the Nylander 7 mil on it</div></div>
fair i could see 38, 39 year old stamkos doing that but not at 34 on what will be his last significant contract, if Nylander is out i could see them pursuing him. From the sounds of it Stamkos doesnt seem to pleased that an extension is not closer so if he decides to move on he may be open to more teams.

the habs will never consider paying the price it would take to land pettersson right now. and highly doubt that Vancouver wants the main piece coming back to be a small offensive dman regardless of how productive he could be.

Year from now
the only thing here that has a remote chance is the habs moving dvorak for a 5th (not to winipeg) the arizona deal just makes no sense for habs when they can just wait a year and buyout armia if needed. Habs could add two firsts to the Nemec package and still be laughed at on the phone. Also montreal hasnt landed a significant free agent in decades i highly doubt they land three in one year and somehow with all of them on decent contracts.
title should be "Year from now...in a galaxy far far away"

Make a move Montreal
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>WhoCares_ItsAFantasyGame</b></div><div>As a Habs fan, I'm wondering why would Leafs do a move like this. And for those wh said they would laugh at this.. PLease..
Anderson has provided low 30 pts per year for the Habs, he's at 5.5M$ right now for the next 4 years (including this one) and he's 29yrs old.
Barron still hasn't shown the level of development he should be hitting right now, and Kovacevic has surpassed him.
- Järnkrok as provided the same amount of points, even high 30's last year with the Leafs, but he's paid 2.1M$ for the next 3 including this one, and he's 31.
- Brodie only has this year at 5M$ and is reliable as a defenseman.. and again only one year left which is this year.
- Villeneuve is a local that would attrack people in Laval, and has shown some good development skills. Not ready to say he'll be an NHLer, but at least bring in people in Laval for now.
In the end, Habs get a potential prospect, and a low cost winger who can provide the same points average as Anderson at this point, with a year less than Anderson.
The only negative point here is that both Järnkrok and Brodie would need to accept being moved to MTL since they have clauses in their contracts. Habs need to move out contracts and Anderson would but better off somewhere else in a club that can use his skills. Toronto could need another grit player in the lineup. I think they would refuse the move knowing their chance to hoist the cup could be this year with the moves that were done in the offseason.
I would question if they would be ok with the lengh of the contract since they need space to sign Nylander and Marner (in the near future) to try and keep their core four.
Anderson can bring the powoer to the front in a team like the Leafs.. Habs could benefit from Järnkrok for a few seasons at his cap hit.</div></div>
Habs dont need to move out contracts currently, they will soon but cap space isnt an issue right now. Barron had a very solid year last year for a 21 year old dman playing on essentially an entirely rookie d-core. Should he be putting up a point a game already? hes looking like a viable top 4 option in the future, he wont be a top pair dman but he's certainly held his own so far. This trade does nothing for mtl's future expect remove a key prospect and replace him with a worse one at the same position.

Habs 2023 trade or move
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TMLBRIAN</b></div><div>I can definitely see tre taking a run at a guy like Anderson.
BUT
Toronto's biggest need is to upgrade the size and physicality of their D group. Brodie is our best defensive dman. If we trade him, it should be a bigger version of him. Ultimately, I think we need to add a Tanev type to our top 4, without removing anyone, and we will be fine.
All this to say, the Leafs should pass. I also don't love Anderson's cap hit but he is one of the most debated players on this site in terms of value.
I don't love this move for Montreal either. They are trading a guy like Baron and a pick and another prospect and are getting older complimentary guys (one being a pending UFA). I can see someone making the argument that "They are getting out of the Anderson contract" but I still wouldn't make this move for Montreal. They do get better this year though, because Brodie is a stud. But long term this doesn't make sense.</div></div>
have to agree, not really a fan of it on either side. if the only upside for MTL is moving out anderson's contract and creating a spot for Armia (who should be in laval at this point) then its really not worth losing Baron. Leafs could make a more focused push for anderson if that was something they really wanted.

Fighting for the last wild card spot
hopefully wideman never dresses, both barron and harris should be in there over him. Slaf isnt going to be on the top line, Armia should be sent down or sent home, The only possible way they move out of the bottom 5-8 teams this year is if they turn it over to some of the younger guys who outperform expectation right off. This isnt a case of trust the veterans players to play consistently, wideman, dvorak armia Maillet all can go.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Czu8iks</b></div><div>That trade would set Anaheim back 2 years, and for what ? 2 mid round picks and ok-ish RHD ?</div></div>
i assume you mean 2 mid first round picks, most likely one if not both is a top 10 pick. I dont think Anaheim does it because they dont want to lose Zegras but at least be honest about the value that there is in that package. Zegras has had a solid start to his career but he still got a ways to go before hes untouchable.

Huge next offseason
the only trade that has a remote change is the habs getting future considerations for armia and dvorak.
Harris needs to be more establish for that deal to work with Philly and Ekblad isnt getting dealt for that package if that COL 2nd was the habs 1st it might be closer but even then makes very little sense for them after just going all in last summer.

Opening night - Habs
i can not much thought went into this... Dvorak is out for potential a month or more, Armia shouldnt get to wear a habs jersey ever again Monahan slots into 2nd line even if Dvorak was healthy. Slaf needs to get enough ice time to grow and may also need to be on the second line moving anderson down (most expensive 3rd line in hockey) If Ghule is played on the right side (i hope they dont do this) he slots in with Matheson on the first pair. The third pairing may end up like that but thats going to be determined in camp cuz theres a lot of players on the cusp.

Ghule is probably too good for the AHL - but it would make an AMAZING dcore in Laval. Yet all 3 would benefit from more dev time to play on the PP, PK and generally developping their offensive game.</div></div>
why not just send ghule and slaf to the echl, i'm sure they could dominate even more there, would be so massively beneficial to their development as NHL players...

if he lines up on the right wing of the first line and gets pp time he will hit 60 this year at a minimum.
If they play him at 2c with a revolving door of wingers then i agree may only hit the 50 point mark.

Possible
Kidney and Mailloux are each atleast a year away from getting a real shot in the NHL and both have reasonable question marks as to what their ceiling will be, the firsts are probably going to be top 10 and top 15 respectfully given the habs trajectory, the asset value long term is an overpay from the habs side, but in the short term its essentially a massive downgrade for Buffalo from Tuch to Anderson going into a year will they are going to be as competitive as they have ever been in the past 10-15 years. All around makes no sense for either side.

2026-27 Solid even without Nylander
i hope habs dont go out and spend on nylander i think they have the intention of moving dach back to the wing on that top line after spending much of his offseason training on his shot, he compliments suzuki and caufield well. Beck should develop into a solid middle 6 center, newhook has already failed to establish himself down the middle so not sure he ends up there. Saros is probably 3-4 mil short on his aav, unless he takes a massive step back in the next two season he be getting a raise not taking a pay cut.
