Description
-I think Pittsburgh is almost certainly going to chase some veteran talent. RD isn't their top need, but a defenseman with Manson's particular attributes is arguably up there. POJ seems to be expendable, and his next deal will be cheap. The Avs can let him and Johnson battle it out for the final spot in their D. But the main goals for Colorado are moving out money that can be used for Walker and getting the pick, which can be flipped to facilitate the next trade.

I'm not married to the Pens with respect to the Manson move. Just thinking they might be interested, but obviously I could be wrong.

-Montreal has Reinbacher and Barron knocking at the door. I feel like getting a second for a guy they claimed off waivers would be a good victory and would give them trade capital to chase a larger acquisition. The Avs get a big guy on the back end who is affordable and who brings a different skillset than the rest of their D.

-Colton adds a new element to Buffalo's bottom/middle six, which I personally think would do their team a fair amount of good. The Sabres have a lot of young forwards, but some aren't ready, and none seem to be in the vein of a Ross Colton. The Avs likely don't want to move Colton, but they get cap space that they need for Mittelstadt and a guy they hope can benefit from a change in scenery in Krebs. I legitimately feel like this is a good trade for both teams, but that's just my humble opinion.

Let me know your thoughts.

habs say yes if thats a 4th instead of a 2nd. He no longer has a spot on the roster and next year there will be even more competition.

Honestly I completely agree that a 2nd is high, but I know a lot of Habs fans think otherwise and aimed for the high side. Obviously I'd love to get him for as little as possible.

ya i think hes going to enter the season at 8th or 9th on the depth chart, habs maybe squeeze a 3rd if the timing is perfect but i dont see them being too worried about the return, given he was a waiver claim any pick up is a solid considering.

Krebs wouldn't be a fit in the Avs system. He's a little softer and gets lost more often than Jost. He's kind of a high end JLF and that's a bad 4C fit.

I don't disagree, but it's a pretty easy fix if he doesn't work out. Looking for a 4C at the tdl is not a bad place to be.

On the other hand, if he buys into Bednar's system and starts to click a little bit, then maybe the team has found a third liner for the future. Worth a shot imo, as it's really cap space and the third that are the main return.

I would really like to see Krebs be that, but as someone who watches him often, its not there and Beds won't give him the years it may take.

I'll just make two points while also conceding that's it's unlikely this becomes a success. One is Drouin, who has bought in and added an element to his game that has never been there. Two is Buffalo's system/culture, in which it's a lot easier and more comfortable to coast.

Again, I'm not saying it will work. But Krebs is a guy that was the engine of his team in the WHL. He has some ability, and it's worth the flyer. He'll be easy to trade if needed, so it's not a big risk.

I feel that he holds a higher 3rd rounder in value, could be a Kovy + late pick for a 2nd. We'd definitely take the PHI '24 2nd for him, wouldn't even think twice if that was offered.

Ghule,Matheson, Xhekaj, Savard, Strube, Harris, Barron (one of Mailloux Hutson and Reinbarcher) probably makes a case in camp to be considered ahead of Kovacevic. My guess is mailloux after the year hes putting up in laval.

Doubtful PIT want Manson imo. 2nd for Kovacevic is too high as well, I'd only do that as part of a package......but the Avs don't have a 3rd which is probably about right value pick-wise. Think pure picks are probably better for Colton. If we're looking at 4C then Pavel can do that easy enough and probably better suited. No need for Krebs for that.
