ya i think hes going to enter the season at 8th or 9th on the depth chart, habs maybe squeeze a 3rd if the timing is perfect but i dont see them being too worried about the return, given he was a waiver claim any pick up is a solid considering.

pretty easy no from the habs. thats a crazy price for a 25 year old who hasnt broken 60 points Beck alone could be a better player in a few season, not to mention hes a center who plays a complete game and fits their timeline better. I dont see the appeal to that deal in any way from the habs. Also how would he want 9 mil? lol Necas going to probably extend in the 7-8 mil range and is a much better player.

Off Season
Matheson probably slots into the 3rd pairing. His point total this year is skewed by his pp production, 26pp points, most of which are secondary assist where he is dumping the puck down to a forward who then makes a play. Factor that in with the amount of mistake he makes on a nightly basis i'd be extremely happy to see him leave for whatever they could get back. I think they will look to open up more opportunities for the younger core and Savard is the more logical option to keep around is you want a vet in the room, his value wont be as high in a trade and you want young dman playing with his level of intensity.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>If he's coming in at an AAV below Necas, why not keep Necas? That should be a solid indication Necas is the more valuable asset</div></div>
because you dont make asset decisions in a bubble. Sometimes it can important to make the difficult decision move on from the younger player, add a comparable if not better point producing player whose only 5 years older, gain assets that can then turn into multiple pieces for further runs and go on cup runs. Again like i said dont think theres a need to move Necas is you are the canes unless theres issues with contract negotiation and pricing.

fair i misread his contract though he had 2 years left on it. I would assume Buch coming in at or below Necas AAV. So would give one year to load up with the assets gained in a Necas. But the only reason to make any trade involving Necas is if theres an issue in contract negotiations and he doesnt want to be there long term so would need to be another factor before canes consider anything like this for sure.

Hughes and company don't even consider this, take out Matheson, Farrell and Palat and that's the deal
Alternatively, Matheson for the Devils 1st + 2nd works too</div></div>
Matheson alone is worth a first and palat has negative value, this deal makes no sense whatsoever for MTL.

Carolina idea 24-25
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Canes decline both.
Starting with the Blues trade, Faulk didn't work under Rod to begin with. That's why he was traded to St Louis. Nikishin isn't eligible to sign his ELC until the end of the year, so you HAVE to have Orlov. Especially because he's been SO good. I'd not trade Orlov for Faulk 1 for 1. Buchnevich would be a great fit, but he's not worth moving Necas AND adding to. Necas is more valuable because he comes with 8 years of control where Buch is a pending UFA. Just keep Necas and not make the Blues move.</div></div>
Not sure a 7-8mil Necas has the same value to the canes as Buch with 3 mil cap hit, assuming they want to win with this core i would think the cap hit would factor into the decision somehow. That being said that package is pretty meh aside from the habs 1st. would imagine it takes a better prospect than farrell and a 2nd inside of of the 6th. Armia has been looking much better in his last 20 games but not sure if that would be a positive or negative addition to the package.

I don't see a package that works for both.</div></div>
your best guess would be wrong then, wouldnt move ghule straight up for boldy, for the same reason you wouldnt move boldy in this deal(even though its a heafty over pay) Every fan is biased towards the players they watch 82 times a year compared to one they see a handful of times at most. Ghule is already our best defensive dman and will be on our top pairing for a very long time. Boldy is off to a great start for his career no doubt but thats not a deal mtl would do either.

if habs are seeking a top end prospect like Askarov then anderson cannot be in the deal, it simply makes no sense for either side, Nashville doesnt want to take on that contract, and the habs wouldnt want to add the necessary assets in that deal to get nashville to actually consider. Conservatively that 1st and a 3rd barely gets them to consider taking anderson, and primeau with a 3rd doesnt land Askarov,

if dvorak had 3 years left then maybe would make since to swap straight up for Pageau,, but hes entering his final year so that really make sense for mtl. Bolduc would see little to no ice time in MTL, he may be young but in the habs depth chart he isnt in comparison to the rest of the d-core so really no value added there.

the sens has been playing this bad because they are bad, they play without any structure and they give up a ridiculous amount of prime scoring chances, they will end up most likely with a pick between 4th and 6th. But without some major changes to that team's core its not gonna matter.

Players Id want
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>F50marco</b></div><div>Got to think the Habs would accept this just on the premise of good value and the team already having a surplus of young dmen.
I sort of agree on the value standpoint but also think you may be judging him a bit harshly too. Its not every day that a team has like 4-5 under 23 yo NHL ready dmen all competing for the last couple spots on a team. He's showed he's more than capable at the NHL but ppl have to be reminded that he is also still young too. He's susceptible to brain farts but most 22 yo dmen are. I think we judge him harsher simply based on the fact we have a plethora of other options. That doesn't mean he wouldn't be an everyday dman on another team with less depth. Habs have an abnormal amount of young depth at this level that they can afford to not be as patient.</div></div>
Fully agree i think he could still develop into a decent dman, but I think philly could pry him from mtl for a little cheaper, then they wouldve been able to last year..But 100% he is a victim of the deep prospect pool the habs have on d.

if i'm the flyers i'm looking at offering a 2nd with a 5th or 6th for barron instead of losing a 1st. Barron has had opportunities to crack the roster but hasnt been able to make the case to be an everyday payer in MTL so i'm not sure it would take a first to land him now.

i'm not concerned as much about point totals specifically, What they need is someone able to drive and create offensive and lift their line mates. 6 guys averaging 60 points is bare minimum what you need. Ideal the top line is averaging 70-80 points and second line 60-70 points. we don't have the d or the goaltending to get by with an average offense.

Getting to an average top 6
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonh514</b></div><div>Stephenson is an elite and I mean ELITE defensive forward. He's better than Danault IMO. I would want that player on my playoff team ALL day. I lined him up with 2 other players who I think are fantastic defensively, because I think as a trio they will destroy the opposition in Expected Goals For.
Monahan, we know what he is. I assume you are worried he will get injured. I am worried that this team will look as inept as they have the past few weeks without him.
Both Monahan & Stephenson would be top 3 in forward scoring on this team this year, and they can both hit 50-65 points per season which is what you would expect out of them.
As to cap space:
In 2025-26 when they need to sign Slaf & Guhle, they will have 24M in cap space with the cap set to go up to 92M and Dvorak, Savard & RHP coming off the books.
In 2026-27, over and above any cap growth and leftover cap room from 2025-26, they will have Matheson coming off the books and it will be the right time to buy out Anderson and/or Gallagher if they need cap room and choose to do so. That summer they will need to resign Dach, Hutson, and any D they want to keep from Xhekaj, Mailloux, Barron.
I don't think these signings hamper the Habs in the way you think they do. These are great players who will help this team grow and gain experience in the playoffs.</div></div>
Thats exactly my point, A team that has Stephenson and Monahan top 3 in scoring (i dont think that would be the case) but if they are that reinforces how much this offense is still lacking, Stephenson is tremendous defensively, but isnt a top line player. And that second line is an average second line at best coupled that with the d-core still needing time to grow these moves dont push the needle enough. In theory both of those players would be awesome to have for playoff runs but i dont think they push us ahead enough to even make the playoffs without other pieces. I'm all for bringing in solid 2-way forwards but mtl is still needing a star offensive forward or they run the risk of repeating this year with the amount of 1-goal games we are in but cant win. The times of being able to score 2-3 goals, play solid team and rely on elite goaltending to win games is gone. That goalie duo is mid-tier at best.

Do you think this team makes the Playoffs in 2024-25?</div></div>
this team as you have it lined up does not make the playoffs in my opinion. I really dont like either of those signings they are far too long and will impact mtl's ability to lock up the young core over the next few seasons. Currently we are handcuffed by the dvorak, andersona and gallagher deals. I think theres are some younger player who would improve the roster, Mailloux and or Reinbacher probably leap frog Barron in the depth chart this summer, would expect one of them sliding in on RD. I also think Beck may make a similar jump next year to what Roy did this year and be a productive player, possibly on that third line. That would leave mtl with the most expensive 4th line in hockey but not much they can do about that for now. As for those two signing i would consider bringing Monahan back if its a 3-4 year deal, Stephanson is not a top line player by any means so that deal is just a lot of wasted money. With the habs picks and prospect they should be looking to make a splash on the trade market. Go after a RFA that a team is going to struggle to pay and bring in someone that fits the timeline of the core.

is that for 20 year old crosby or 36--37 year old crosby? If pens move him, and they probably should to kick off a serious rebuild, the return is probably gonna be in the realm of 3 firsts, either picks or prospect. Its on year of crosby i dont see anyone given up more than that, and most likely any first round picks would be late firsts if its a team like the Aves leading the push to land him.

your whole post was about it being relevant thats why i brought it up. theres more left shot dman than right in the nhl most teams use one or two left shot dman on the right side. Anyways thats not important, like i said its fair that duck fans think they should ask for more, and of course just keeping him is the an option, and probably the most likely scenerio. But the trade offer mentioned here for a player that has the upside of probably developing into an 80 point, one dimensional forward is pretty fair. harris plays RD more than LD with the habs so thats a moot point, would be a good idea to review where a player plays before commenting it it not being a fit. The package may be light compared to what ducks fans think Zegras is worth but i dont see MTL wanting to pay more than that, if theres another team that would go above that package then thats great for the ducks.
