Jarvis has a higher cieling than Tuch does, and Carolina don't have 4.75 mil in cap. Why would they do this?

Seth Jarvis is going to be an absolute beast for the Canes as early as next year, I don't think he's going anywhere tbh.

Jarvis COULD hit the ceiling, but also has a higher likelihood that he won't. Tuch's contract is also quite valuable because he's on a good cap hit at a long term. Dealing Gardiner's LTIR gives Carolina the requisite space to fit Tuch in.

He could very well be, I agree. I'm just more cagey on prospects than most Canes fans, and Tuch is a very valuable forward with cap control and term.

Except it doesn't... Gardiner isn't on LTIR yet, won't be until the season starts. They still cannot fit him in now with Gardiner's cap relief. Also, the higher likelihood for Jarvis is that he hits what Tuch is. Tuch is injury prone, and struggles to stay in the lineup, his PPG might be better than Jarvis', but it's far more likely Jarvis will be more servicable. This just isn't worth it at this price. Without Jarvis, it makes sense, I can appreciate it. If you made this with Suzuki saying his eyes are deteriorating and it's unlikely he hits what Tuch is, that would make sense. But you're taking the only blue chip prospect in the organization to do this? I don't understand
