Eichel and Matthews on the same team could score a lot of goals, when healthy. If Eichel needs this whole year to recover, Toronto still has good wings, but they could make other trades, tank a bit, develop some prospects, and sign some new wings in UFA.

Buffalo gets a slightly younger player with four more career points at a similar cap hit, with half as much money left on his contract, who does not need neck surgery. Win-win?

Toronto is a win-now team. Like right now. Or else there will be changes made and it won’t be the same team.

Trading for a player who is going to sit out for a year, a desperation year for the Leafs, is just stupid.

This trade doesn’t give us cap space, nor does it improve the team.

Doesn’t make sense.

Technically one for one it saves you about $1 million. That’s one or 2 4th line players right?
