Description
This is basically the trade. To summarize, Ken Holland, who badly needs a star goalie, decided to not get one and instead acquire a third round pick to move down in the draft. Bill Guerin got the steal of the draft at the 20th pick. Now Wallstedt is dominating in the WJC and in the upper-tier of SHL-goalies. He just turned 19. My guess is that a couple years from now Holland makes a stupid overpay-move for a medium goalie and comments on how hard tendys are to find. Everyone applauds and surely nobody gets angry.

Thank you, Holland!

I think Ducks fans appreciate Ken Holland for taking Philip Broberg one spot before the Ducks took Trevor Zegras

Going into the draft it was Cossa or nothing. Edmonton has Skinner. He will be their goalie for a long time. A goalie doesn’t help you win in the NHL for 4 years they need help before that and they will sign a veteran goalie on a long term contract before wallstedt is ready leaving no place for him. There were rumours that wallstedt had attitude issues they certainly don’t need that. Luca munzenberger looks like he could be a good second pairing D man one day.

Yes I’m also quite sure the islanders say thanks for the Mathew barzal pick to Chia.

There's a lot of unpacking to be done here... First of all, Wallstedt has no attitude issues - no credible source has ever reported that. Munzenberger is a decent prospect that really hasn't impressed apart from his game against Finland. He is your average 2nd / above average 3rd pair D. Wallstedt is miles ahead of him and Bourghault.

Also, if Stuart Skinner is your long-term answer in goal, you can forget all dreams of contending. The guy has 11 games of experience and a ceiling not much higher than Kaapo Kähkönen. Wallstedt has been said to be able to become the next Lundqvist (obviously because of the Swedish connection, but you get the point). If the plan was originally Cossa or nothing, the planmaster doesn't know how to do their job since there is no consensus Cossa is better - I'd actually argue that Yzerman made a mistake taking him over Wallstedt.

Point being, Holland made a terrible decision to pass up on Wallstedt and if you disagree, Wallstedt will prove you wrong very soon.
