Imo ty smith does not look like an nhl defenseman. Even last year when he was putting up points, it just looked like he had one strength, which was getting the puck through and on net for a hopeful deflection. He looks scared, unathletic, uncoordinated, and struggles on defense and the physical battles. His offense looks very stiff and not creative. I say that they sell high on him and trade him for a skilled grit top six winger (maybe a package deal for a really good top six grit player).

My question to devil’s fans, does anyone else see this or am I the only one that sees almost zero skill and potential with Ty?

You probably chose ANA just cause they're the first team, but maybe a deal around Comtois and Smith? Two players with skill and potential, but appear to be struggling. I haven't watched much of Smith this year, so I can't say if that take is accurate -- just basing it on what OP said. If ANA loses both Manson and Lindholm to FA, they would probably be looking to add a defenseman.
