Description

Is this really what Canucks fans want for Tanev? As a Leafs fan i would have thought it was higher but I see a ton of Tanev trades recently (from Vancouver fans) trading him for a first with either TB or EDM etc. If a 1st (especially this year) is all it takes idk why Toronto wouldn't do it. Having a for sure Top 4 guy in Tanev is a lot better IMO than a prospect you could maybe turn out to be a Top 4 guy (Foote, Hague, etc.)

This was discussed on Vancouver radio earlier this week. The consensus is Tanev's value equals William Nylander (similar to the Hall trade) but I don't see any way the Leafs give up Nylander right now. I think it will take more than a first, probably adding someone like Kapanen & another pick/prospect:

I could see Tanev being a trade option for the Leafs but I don't know if they would be interested in dealing both Kapanen plus their 1st for him

Tanev doesn't have the same value as Larsson, Age difference, injury history etc , Tanev misses like 15+ plus games most seasons.
Also just because the Oilers made a bad trade to help improve their team overall doesn't mean that trade sets the bar for all subsequent trades.
GM's overpay for a top line winger one day and then another GM will get one for alot cheaper another day. Not that static I feel like that.
This leafs fan says our current defense with a rookie, a 2nd year pro (Carrick) and young morgan Rielly are pushing for a playoff spot. No real need to deal a 1st+Kap the first time the leafs possibly make the playoffs and the 1st year the big 3 are in the NHL

sure wish there could be Tanev trades to some other teams besides the Leafs where his value could really be measured, but this Tanev to Leafs seems to be a Canuck obsession, if the 2017/18 roster of the leafs had been done it would show that the leafs have considerable cap space. speculating that the leafs would explore the ufa market or teams with cap problems before giving up two young pieces.

Tanev would be better insulated in a Mike Babcock system and probably doesn't lose the man games in Toronto. Still, all the more reason to move him now.
