Hawks say yes, but CAR shouldn't. Sends a bad message to future prospects that even if you choose to sign with CAR despite having a choice to go any where...they'll deal your rights away without giving you a real chance.

Not really, this is the same thing everyone said about CdH when they dumped him in the off-season a year after signing him. Carolina is one of the best teams in the NHL. They're going to be moving prospects for good players, that's been the case forever. Good teams will try to sell the farm to win the cup. It's the business aspect of the game. Carolina is still a nicer place than a lot of NHL markets with considerably lower tax rates than most and much better weather than a lot of markets. This doesn't change any of the pull factors the organization has.

North Carolina is middle of the pack for taxes, but actually one of the highest flat rate inome taxes in the country. Take that aside as that's truly not as big a deal as people make it out to be. Every player pays the state income tax for wherever the game is played. Yes, that means all the Canes players pay California state income tax and New York state income tax when they play away games.

I proposed a Gus for a 4th and you were very against it. Now you sign a guy (who didnt have to go to CAR and after two games you're A.) giving up on him and B.) trying to trade him Gus and you're for it. Nothing adds up.

He was signed because EVERY goaltender in the organization not named Freddie Andersen was hurt at the time. Lyon, Raanta, Makiniemi were all hurt and Kochetkov was on loan to the KHL. They needed another goalie.

Aside from that, it's a business. Lafontaine was a in the Holby Baker conversation last season, he's a damn good prospect. It's hardly giving up on him. Furthermore, he's behind Kochetkov and Makiniemi in the depth chart. He's not got the same upside they do either. This not only allows Carolina to move prospects for roster pieces like EVERY contending team does, but it then allows him to get a chance to develop he's not going to get with the crease crowded with the Wolves.

Gus is barely an NHL caliber player, this has nothing to do with that. My point here is that moving Lafontaine makes a lot of sense, but it would have to be for a HELL of a lot more than Gus.
