Description
why okposo?
Cause he can be a serviceable 3rd RW for a season and is off the books after the season. unlike barrie and his anchor of a contract, that would hold not only JP and Yamo's contract negotiations hostage but also bouchards

That combined with the other moves and callups will give the following offseason, 12.9mil in cap space to only sign bouchard and skinner. The rest is fair game for whatever is needed to get over the hump.

for this offseason though,it's about locking up the rest of the core and pushing out some bad money for some good money. Improve the team efficiency and get the roster lined up to go big swinging next yr with the last of the needed space heading out the door.

Depending on how scorched the pacific might be (and calgary getting the traditional sutter hangover after the bump), this team that can push for a WCF berth, which would be a much-needed step forward.

legit just had buffalo as more of a placeholder. Litterally we just need the get rid of barrie to a team that needs defensive depth, and a guy that can transition the puck, and be a pp qb.

How is barrie an anchor? 4.5 million for a right handed d that has shown very recently to lead all d in points. Look at what other right d are signing for that aren’t as good offensively Jones hamilition. Horrible trade sorry no other way of putting it.

we need the space to sign yamo, JP and Bouch. sorry but if moving on from barrie allows the young parts of this core to stick around for the long-term, it should be done period. And no team is going to do edmonton any favours by giving them 4.5mil in cap space to make that happen. The oilers cap issues are not a secret and teams will use that as leverage. with how cap strapped the oilers are (cause of Holland) they are stuck and it'd be stupid to choose keeping barrie (3rd pair 4.5mil dman with term that outside of the pp is brutal) and singing 2 bridges to key players over dumping barrie and getting the young studs locked up with term.

Keeping barrie shoots yourself in the foot cap wise because you risk another darnell nurse situation with not just with JP and YAMo but, also with Bouch. If he gets value in return that be great but I'd be surprised if teams give a lot of value for a trade that Edmonton NEEDS to make. Any barrie trade for edmonton is coming from a position without leverage unless some GM out there is dumb enough to pay the kind of prices that guys like barrie (or worse) have gotten recently. If the oilers had breathing room with the cap then they can bide their time and find the right price but, they don't have the time or space to play the waiting game.

Leafs will re-sign Mikheyev if he is asking for $2.4M, he's not signing for that cheap with the Oilers
