Description
First of all the best scenario for the Sharks, would be to play young guys and be bad next year for a chance of getting Bedard. But as Hertl was re-signed, that screams trying to compete....

In order to compete, I have made couple of scenarios:

Adin Hill trade is probably bad, but I think they trade him for something.
So Edmonton fans don't get too mad, that 2nd is just for now.

Sharks sign Bordeleau to fight Reedy/Bonino for the 3C spot. Really hope Bonino is our 4C and penalty kill specialist
Merkley playing between 2nd and 3rd pair to show his talent, best case scenario is he takes Burns spot as the 2nd puck-moving offensive d-men.
Gushchin has a chance to make it depending on the camp, but the realistically he is in the AHL.
Coe as an tweener between NHL and AHL.
Keep the Barbie/Hertl/Meier line and hope Eklund sparks Couture/Dahlen
Powerplay is where Eklund is reunited with Hertl.

I like the PP1 and 2

Spreading the talent with
PP1: Hertl, Meier, Eklund, Burns and Karlsson
PP2: Couture, Barabanov, Dahlen, Labanc and Merkley

PK is not my strenght, but I'll give Hertl/Couture some rest. If that doesn't work out put Couture/Hertl on one or both of the lines
PK1: Bonino, Balcers, Vlasic and Ferraro
PK2: Reedy, Nieto, Knyzhov and Karlsson

Alternative:
PK1: Couture, Bonino, Vlasic and Ferraro
PK2: Hertl, Balcers, Knyzhov and Karlsson

The sharks are so confusing that I’m to the point where I think ownership is taking a major role. It’s just so obvious they should be in full sell, yet here they are, extending everyone they can.

Yup, that's the problem. They should start getting rid of the older contracts and really start building around Eklund, Meier and whomever is drafted or sticks from the prospect pool.
Veteran presence is okay to some extent, but the reality is that Sharks has too many guys that want to win now and they are not close to that at all.

They can't get rid of the big, old contracts without including picks and prospects. How do you not get that? No one is taking a Vlasic, Karlsson or Burns without including an Eklund, Robins or Coe in the package along with significant retention. We are stuck with these contracts, end of story.

The problem is they can’t get rid of the big time contracts…other than buyouts i guess. The players also are good enough to make sure the sharks don’t bottom out, but aren’t good enough to win. A vicious cycle to be stuck in. They shouldn’t have signed Hertl though. They should have traded couture when they had a chance. This team is just so stuck.

They're banking on the next set of kids on ELCs to offset the contract impacts.

I agree though, even as a Sharks fan I can't tell what we're doing.
