Description
Greatly improved bottom half of the lineup. Keeping Debrusk and Reilly.
Henrique and Nickushkin are 2 very solid 2nd liners; Nickushkin especially is a very good piece to get in FA. Will instantly become a fan favourite. Henrique is a legit 2C, and while the cost to get him is high, it’s worth it considering not only is he a good upgrade over Coyle, but you are saving a lot of cap space now and for the long run by doing this. Roy is a very good 3rd liner to add, and leaves you with a 3rd line that can provide a good bit of offence. The 4th line is a pure defensive/checking line.
*this is assuming Bergeron resigns on a Jason Spezza type deal. Bergeron is at the point in his career where he doesn’t need the money, and he does this to make the team the best it can be.
Rosen, Macherean, Greer, and Kinkaid are all AHL guys who can play in the NHL if needed to. Kinkaid is a solid 3rd stringer, and the other 3 skaters all have NHL experience and can handle 5-10 games if needed (likely due to injuries of NHL guys)

Trades
1.
BOS
  1. Roy, Nicolas [RFA Rights]
VGK
  1. Studnicka, Jack [RFA Rights]
  2. 2023 3rd round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Vegas will need to clear cap this offseason and with Roy likely to want a pretty fair boost from his current pay, Vegas moves him for a young NHL capable forward and a mid round pick
2.
BOS
  1. Henrique, Adam ($1,325,000 retained)
Additional Details:
While Henrique is no David Krejci, he is still a bonafide 2C, and a very solid upgrade over Coyle
ANA
  1. Beecher, John [Reserve List]
  2. Coyle, Charlie ($750,000 retained)
  3. Forbort, Derek
  4. 2023 1st round pick (BOS)
Additional Details:
Henrique at nearly 6 mil is not exactly ideal, but he is still without a doubt a very good player. Getting him down to 4.5 mil is perfect for Boston. Anaheim adds a 1st in the 2023 draft and a B level prospect in Beecher. The price is very high, but this move also involves Anaheim taking on 2 contracts of players who are certainly NHL level pieces, but Forbort at 3 mil is not a good contract and is a cap dump; and Coyle long term at 5 is ugly. A lot of the value of this trade is because of Anaheim taking on these contracts as they likely spend the next 2-3 years rebuilding. Boston retains a bit of Coyles long term contract to even put value
3.
BOS
    Any team who wants them
    ANA
    1. Haula, Erik
    2. Nosek, Tomas
    3. Wagner, Chris
    Additional Details:
These 3 aren’t on bad enough contracts to the point where Boston must give up an asset to trade them, especially considering these are all 1 year, but the players don’t hold too much value in them. Haula and Nosek are likely traded for mid round picks; Wagner likely gets future considerations or *maybe* a 7th rounder. Regardless, doesn’t matter where these guys go; they just aren’t needed

If I’m Verbeek, I am not doing that trade. I’m passing big time on the Coyle contract

It’s definitely an ugly contract. 4.5 for Coyle for 4 years isn’t great, but at the same time it also fetches Anaheim a pretty damn good return. Coyle also holds some value as a player as well, he makes for a solid 3rd liner

I really like Lundeström as our 3C currently and I think would rather trade a 2nd plus for Roy like was done here to play RW3

The return is decent but Beecher would join a logjam and I feel Anaheim sees Coyle and Forbert as a cap dump so I don’t see the value for the contacts we are taking on coming back

That’s fair tbh. I didn’t wanna go overkill with the return but I could definitely see it being more. It all depends on how other GMs value Coyle and Forbort, so the value could be roughly what I had or another solid piece more

Dvorak is worse then Coyle and makes only $800k less. Dvorak fetched a 1st round pick last summer, let's stop with the Coyle is a bad contract. The guys playing a 3rd line role and still on pace for nearly 50pts.

Don't see Boston having much interest in any of these moves.
    DontheGoat liked this.
