Description
Bring back a few familiar faces, mostly focused on short term contracts for bigger veterans that can protect the rookies and provide leadership until our younger prospects are ready to fill their place. The money may need some adjusting on FA, not a huge concern for Anaheim if they're a bit more. By the time we're paying all the young guys they'll be off the roster, as will the $5M+ for Henrique and Silf.

Trading Gibson because we have multiple replacements (Dostal & Clang) in the pipeline who can compete for the starting spot when the Ducks are actually competing in a couple years. Targetting youth for him now at LW where we still need a top line guy for the future. Doesn't have to be Toronto, just targeting a strong LW prospect with some size and draft pick, ideally with a goalie coming back as a cap dump.

Hoping to fall behind Buffalo and Detroit in the standings to pull off one of Jiricek, Nemec, or Slafkovsky in the draft. Assuming Jiricek in this case.

Ducks would need a bit more to hit the minimum cap. Assume we add a player or two as a cap dump based on where teams are landing in the offseason.

Future looking promising, not including our late '22 first, two '22 seconds, two '23 firsts, and three '23 seconds

John Gibson doesn't waive for any Canadian team, And David Jiricek @ 10th overall is a major pipedream. He goes top 5 and he wont get past either Detroit or Buffalo at 8th and 9th overall.

Has Gibson ever said that? Kinda think he'd be happy to play for any contending team. Has been very vocal about how tired he is of losing.

I can see the Ducks at 8th overall. If they lose to the sharks tonight they have Dallas left on the schedule (that's a loss). That means 1 point from Buffalo (Chicago at home on the schedule) and 2 from Detroit (NJ on second of a back-to-back) and we fall behind them. Jiricek not going to play at WC due to the injury. Ducks could be at #8, and I could see him going there. All of Wright, Cooley, Slafkovsky, Nemec, Kemell, Savoie, Lambert, and even Yurov could very reasonably go in front of him. Not saying it's a lock by any means, but pipedream is pushing it big time

The appropriate edit is: "Gibson hasn't played in front of an NHL caliber defense in years." He'd be great on a contending team, and I think many GMs would value him as such. Including some with the need.

no, the appropriate edit, if one needs to be redundant about it, is 'gibson hasnt been good in years and his defence hasnt helped him much' he's not the goalie he used to be and pretending his value is anything like that is hilarious. Unless we get to pretend Mrazek's value is where it was 4 years ago too
