Description
Trades:

Pittsburgh:

Pens (We'll see tonight) are either going for 3 in a row, or 2 in 3 years, and are losing Bonino to FA. That's a major hole that they have no way in filling. Along comes Bozak, a 40-50 point centerman that thrives under playing against weak bottom roster players (making him the perfect complement to Crosby/Malkin) and he also wins faceoffs. What's also good about him is his 2.1m cap hit. PIT is one of the few teams that are "all in" right now and a late first in a week draft that may or may not turn into something in 4 years isn't going to matter. They also trade goalie prospect since the market for centerman is so weak (Hanzal and Bonino are only noteworthy FA's). I used Martin Hanzal to Minny for a 1st, 2nd and 4th as a comparable.

Florida:

They've made it especially known they're looking for a top six goalscoring winger which is exactly what JVR is. Florida also has a good good chance of resigning because they have the advantage of no state tax. With Jagr and Jokinen aging they could use some good wingers to bring them back to playoffs.

Boston:

This is a little weird trade, but basically BOS is going to probably going to lose Colin Miller and he's 24 right handed and has great analytics (was also formerly Duba's captain at SSM). So alongside of gaining a solid B prospect whose NHL ready they also clear out an annoying cap hit of Hayes. I threw in a 7th to the Leafs because of this cap dump by the Bruins but it's not exactly necessary.

Vancouver:

This trade is an idea I've had for awhile and I think it works well for both teams. Vancouver gets a right handed defenseman that's 4 years younger, a good B/B+ prospect and they get a late first round pick. Vancouver sends back a 27 yr old defenseman with very little offense to his game, buts good at suppressing shots and a 3rd round pick. To balance out cap we send back Jimmy Hayes, but if that's really an issue Leafs can keep him.

FA:

Brian Boyle:

With Willy transitioning to Center Leafs need a good 4th line centerman just in case so we need to keep Boyle 2 years x 3million is probably my limit but if we can get under that the better.

Keith Kinkaid:

He's a REALLY good backup goalie, if he plays 20 games those are 20 games we now have a decent chance of winning.

Forward Lines:

1st - Matthews and Marner get put together along with worker bee Hyman. Marner didn't look great in playoffs so he needs to prove his worth and hit 65/70 points this year. Matthews needs to keep doing Matthew things, put in 35 goals and 35 assists. I have Hyman on a 1 year contract because he needs to prove he can provide SOME offense.

2nd - Swapping Kapanen for Brown in hopes he can kick in a bit more offense. Kapanen has really moved up the rankings and is going to be a top notch top six forward (did you see his goal from game 3 against Syracuse?!?!). Komarov is an elite defensive winger and usually is good for 15 - 20 goals. Kadri needs to keep up his game from last year.

3rd - Nylander has been an absolute monster in the second half and he can definitely anchor a line. Brown flanks him on the right to chip in 20 goals and keep the defensive side of the game consistent. Leivo to me seems he can be a 20 goal guy, reminding me of JVR minus the front net presence.

4th - Martin seems to be as untouchable as Matthews so I guess he's there, Boyle is very necessary for reasons I explained above and Soshnikov needs to score some goals, the man is so skilled and uber quick but its got to translate into goals. If he can't produce we can call up Johnnson or even Griffith.

Defensive Pairings:

1st - With Tanev there to anchor and reduce shot attempts it finally allows Morgan to become the offensive defenseman he can be. I could see him given PP time hit 45/50 pts. Rielly seriously impressed me with Hunwick and I think it shows he excels best when he has a defenseman to stop the puck and then let Rielly take it out of the zone.

2nd - I put Miller with Gardiner to bring a more stable influence but Gardiner is REALLY good, he just skates pucks out of our zone at will. If Miller gets overwhelmed he could slide down and Zaitsev can come up.

3rd - Marincin is given the opportunity to play his defensive game and have Zaitsev be the puck mover on this pairing. If Marincin can't be the player we need Dermott or Rosen can prove their worth.

Draft:
10th (1)
17th (1)
51st (2)
64th (3)
110th (4)
123rd (4)
141st (5)
172nd (6)
203rd (7)
204th (7)

One more move I considered was a Deal with Washington that was contingent on them resigning some of their other players.

To TORONTO:
-Rights to RFA Andre Burakovsky

To WASHINGTON:
-Nikita Soshnikov
-2018 2nd round pick

Then put Burakovsky with Nylander and Brown and move Leivo down in place of Soshnikov.

Anyways here is a list of a couple other players I would be interested in trading for if their teams were willing to trade them:
-Andre Burakovsky
-Boone Jenner
-Sean Couturier
-Damon Severson
-Jacob Trouba
-Matt Duchene
-Josh Manson
-Jonathon Drouin

The problem with the list above is that most aren't available or they want more than I'm willing to part with.

BOS will more than likely protect Miller since he's such a low cap hit and can play the 3rd pairing role. We'll most likely lose McQuaid or Kevan Miller.
