Description
The Isles lineup is more or less set this summer - there's only a couple pieces around the margins to mess with. Let's see how messy we can get.

TRADES
-Is this enough? Bailey is still productive enough to help Seattle be mildly competitive, he's got a ton of experience to help mentor their younger forwards, he helps Seattle get towards the floor, and they get a decent LD prospect who hopefully steps up in 2023-24 when Soucy would've been gone anyway, and an extra 3rd for the Kraken too.

-Swap out Varlamov to Washington, retain so they can afford him easily, and get back Vanecek & a late 2nd. Varly can be a mentor for Samsonov and hopefully unlock whatever's keeping him from realizing his true talent; Vanecek is more in line with what the Isles would want to spend on a backup if Sorokin is gonna start 55-60 games. Even with the retention, Isles save $900K against the cap.

-Whatever, give Panik a chance to play NHL games. Arizona give a lottery ticket pick back based on the hope that they can retain Panik down to $637K at the deadline and get back a better pick than what they gave to get him.

-Toronto gives the Isles a pair of picks to do their dirty work and eat the Mrazek buyout. For this trade, the part of "Michael Dal Colle" can also be played by "Future Considerations" - I figured that the Isles don't seem to have a spot for MDC and that Toronto would rather play MDC on the 4th line than Kyle Clifford.

SIGNINGS
-Keep all the RFAs, sure. Dobson gets a 2x$4.5M bridge and holds the Isles up for $8M+ in summer 2024, good for him. Also brought back Austin Czarnik & Grant Hutton as NHL depth and kept my personal pet project Ken Appleby in Bridgeport as a 3rd goalie with at least a little NHL experience.

-Valeri Nichushkin is the only real signing - he replaces Josh Bailey as a hopefully less shooting-averse, more two-way style of forward. 27 years old, so a 5 year deal gives him another bite at the apple when he's 32 and can still conceivably cash in on a deal.

Thats a terrible trade for the isles, taking mrazeks 3.8×2 for a late 3rd and 5th. Isles shouldnt touch that at all.

Soucy deal is interesting but I don’t think Seattle would take it. If Bolduc had played the same way last year as he did in the 20-21 season it would be fair imo.

A first or two seconds and a third. That’s what it costs to dump Mrazek imo.

You're not keeping him, you're just buying him out and Toronto is giving you the picks for eating that buyout since they have less cap space.

Put it this way: would you expect much more than a 3rd and a 5th if you were retaining $1M in a trade?

Youre not allowed to have a condition on a buyout. So its the isles taking mrazek for a 3rd and a 5th. Whatever they do with him is their business. Also it might only be ~1 million this year but its a total of 4,733,332 that we have to eat on this buyout. Id expect at least a 2nd for that. Not to mention dead cap on the books for 4 years. Lou did a really good job at clearing the books of dead/bad cap and taking mrazek on is a terrible way to go.
