Description
1) nobody is happy with PP packages so the trade option has been dropped (people seem to think he’s worth a lot or not much at all). I like him but not more then a ~2nd valuation - much like zadina he does a lot of things good and can’t score. Except unlike zadina he did this playing with McDrai and is 24. So, the solution is just to offersheet him 4m for a second cause the oilers probably can’t match. They only have 7m this offseason before getting a goalie or upgrading d, signing yams, Kulak and McLeod, etc. Would rather approach with a trade that helps both teams but this is the fallback.

2) Added a 4th to the Calgary trade - was told they’d take it and run with just the second. They probably still would but makes it a little more fair.

5) added a 4th going back to Carolina s the Necas + 2nd was “slightly” overpaying.

Detroits 2 biggest needs are
1. A good 2nd line center which you addressed
2. Two good LT shot dmen which you didnt
3. A reliable backup which you may have overkilled

Overall solid but that D is still really bad

It’s not meant to be a playoff/competitive team just yet. I think that comes in 2023-2024. That said, I do really believe that Ajo and Edvinsson are both ready - got Staal and Walman there to eat minutes if they struggle. Could always trade for petersson for like a third, but it really depends where the org views Ajo - really impressed with him in the ahl playoffs. If the rookies are ready you have to let them play (so long as they earn the spot). A lot of the forwards brought in are strong defensively too so team defense will be better to help the young d into the league.

Copp is a temporary 2C solution who can play up and down the lineup and shift over if a 2C we draft is ready in 3-4 years towards the end of that contract.

And for the goalie, Husso or another could work. I personally think ned is best suited for 1A 1B role and think Campbell would provide a lot of stability there.

100%

I just think that if SY was too make that many moves upfront, copp, necas and monahan then he would certainly address the blueline.

Overall I dobt mind this just feel we would be better off with a backup like Holtby and adding a chariot, kulak or zadorov to the blueline this year to help stabilize it a bit

No thanks on the Bertuzzi trade, Tyler Bertuzzi @ 50% retention is worth more than Martin Necas and a 2nd round pick rather easily.
Doubt Calgary does the 2nd trade, Probably just move a 3rd to move Monahan.
