Description
I have no idea how the Kakko situation will work out. He says that he doesn't think the scratch will effect him leaving and I don't think many teams will pay for the first and third round pick that Kakko would cost at 4.2 million. (If they do, I think it will be hard to pay him that considering his point production and his really rough first season) Truly, I think he'll stay for about 2 or 2.5.

Kratsov has had conversations with Drury and has indicated he wants to play in NY (32 thoughts podcast), so I'm keeping him but he could absolutely be dealt, but NYR need as much high end young cheap talent as possible with the cap crunch being what it is.

Obviously the more cap the NYR have especially with Chytil, Laf, and Miller needing extensions the better. Jones can slot in with Schneider having experience. Laf has indicated that he wants top 6 minutes and in his exit interview indicated that RW is an option.

Obviously Georgie is gone in a trade deal maybe involving Nemeth (Got to get that cap hit off the books asap, but due $3.5m in a backloaded deal could be hard for a team that wants to get to the floor with the least possible dollars.) or another trade chip, Strome likely not coming back unless he's taking a deep discount. I would like the Rangers signing Motte or Vatrano but don't imagine NYR can afford that. Kinkaid or Wall can come up from Hartford. Lundkvist can be used as trade bait as I can't imagine he will stay in Hartford and have his value rise.

Othmann is likely a season away. Rydhal who was signed from Sweden had a solid season and with a one year deal could be a solid bottom 6 pivot.

Kakko getting too much but I think this is the right track. Personally think we could trade a group of prospects for an established 2/3 line C and save cap rather than signing Copp for a high AAV long term deal. Saves us a lot of cap space. Also think that trading for a C instead of signing Copp allows us to take Motte or Vatrano instead of Hunt on low AAV long term deal.

This is pretty much the plan to fend off a Kakko offer sheet (which probably isn’t happening anyway). Otherwise Kakko can be signed to a bridge deal 2.3- 2.5M per….with the $ saved they can maybe sign Motte for 4th line…as long as he is at a reasonable rate.
