If this is what the Hurricanes would have to give up for Burns at 3 Million retention we would absolutely accept with hesitation.

San Jose would probably have to take back Gardiner for cap purposes, but this deal looks pretty good to me

Yeah, take it and run - that deal works for the Canes even if they end up having to buy out Burns on the 3rd year of the deal.

San Jose would not need to take Gardiner back. The Canes could do this deal, keep Gardiner as a 3LHD, and still have cap to fill holes in the forward group
