Description
#1) Buyout Monahan.
#2) Resign RFA's Mangiapane (Gaudreau's replacement), Kylington, and Ruzicka.
#3) Move Huberdeau to Montreal in exchange for Josh Anderson (Tkachuk replacement signed to term); Christian Dvorak (Monahan replacement); and a 1st round pick.
#4) Sign long-term extension with Weegar (4+years) and the blueline is locked up for quite a while and has insurance in the inevitable Tanev injury (and Flames can limit his regular season minutes).
Goal scoring takes a dip; but overall team defense improves; roster is still a contender in the 2-4 year window.
Cap wise: Weegar's extension kicks in when Lucic's contract expires so the money is there. Prospects coming up have spots to fill in starting with Pelletier on the 3rd line this year. Zary and Coronato soon. Running 22 roster players allows the team to place Tanev on IR and accrue cap space to start the year for a few months at least possibly all the way to the deadline.
Mackey and Poirier probably eventually make Valimaki (RFA next season) and his $1.5m deal expendable but he is needed until Tanev returns from IR (or LTIR). This could be part of a trade deadline deal to shore up any areas of need.

Anderson isn't even close to a Tkachuk replacement. And Huberdueau is our Gaudreau replacement. Not Mangiapane

I didn't say they were their "equals".

And I'd rather have Huberdueau more than Anderson. I only see us trading Huberdueau for picks and prospects. Maybe a cap dump to make money fit for this year. No longer term contracts. If Huberdueau leaves, I would like to see us rebuild. Anderson doesn't help that IMO
