Just wanted to clarify for everyone wondering how the Bruins get under the cap.
They could send both Wagner & Foligno to the AHL today and be under the cap as demonstrated below, no need to trade anyone. However this only allows them to have a 22 man roster (12F+8D+2G) and limits them on who they can play. Obviously not the greatest solution.
They can put either Marchand or McAvoy on LTIR which gives them that roster flexibility, but when they get healthy will need to move the most likely candidates of either Reilly, Smith, or Nosek. A lot depends on who they ship out however;
- What's the market looking like for either one of them in november/december and if they can get close to fair value for one of them.
- Has a young guy stepped up and took over their job? Like Studnicka/McLaughlin/Beecher over Nosek, Lysell over Smith, or Clifton/Zboril over Reilly.
- Or trade one of them based on the organizations depth (seems more likely), which in this scenario would be Reilly hence having 8 capable defencemen to play on a nightly basis and him looking like a scratch on most nights.
A lot for Sweeney to figure out of course, but doesn't have to worry about it until Marchand & McAvoy get close to being healthy.
As a Leafs fan, it drives me absolutely insane that BOS has all these hometown discounts currently. With the exception of McAvoy, all the star talent is will under their actual value. Marchand, Pasta, Bergeron, Hall, Krejci...........it's just killing me...........
I’d rather keep Nosek as a reliable veteran in the bottom six and if we have injuries on the left side Reilly is so much better than anyone else we have. Those 2 are important for depth. But trading Smith frees up the most space for maybe something at the deadline possibly to replace him on the third line. I mean we can’t afford another 0 point performance from Smith in the playoffs.
