I think you are underrating the Sabres forwards. I'm not a Thompson fan, but I can tell you he is a black hole on the wing. I think most guys that are centers can play wing, Thompson not so much, he looks like a decent middle 6 center right now, looked like he was gonna be a washout on the wing. It's sad that the first thing I thought was- "hey, if the Sabres and another team combined rosters, at LEAST they would get some help at right d. Samuelsson beats out dermott, not sure there's much debate there. There's quite a few Sabres forwards who you could make a case for- Skinner is overpaid and needs GPS to find his own zone, but he scores goals. There's very promising young wingers- Krebs, Quinn, and peterka who look like they have bright nhl futures, and solid defensive forward asplund who got votes for selke (I mean he finished like 19th in voting, but that's gonna happen when you don't produce much offensively). My take on the Sabres roster- they are gonna be loaded on the wings, center is going to be a sore spot (I don't think it was a coincidence that they spent 3 first round picks on centers), left d is really good, and right d (assuming dahlin plays there full time) is average at best. The goalies are this years version of "throw some crap at the wall and see what sticks", which is probably the plan until Levi arrives or they have to look elsewhere.

I don't think Thompson beats Pettersson/ Miller or Horvat at center. Asplund probably switches for Thompson. I think Dahlin / Hughes pairing would be really good. Skinner is a non-starter with his cap hit and his play. Samuelsson probably slots in as well. Thanks for the input
