Description
I have no idea what these contracts could actually look like, these are just made up numbers. Just a dream scenario where the Ducks dont tank this year, but get lucky at the lottery and win Bedard. Then convince Auston Matthews to play close to home when his contract expires and put this team in a prime position to make a Cup run. You could go a hundred different ways with free agent signings and contract extensions after the top two lines, but this is just a simplified projection. Seems like a fun team to watch, still a chunk of cap space and cap that could be cleared to make a better move to improve the depth. Cap Space likely to jump at least a little bit

Nah, leave Matthews somewhere else. Hockey is a team game, and Toronto has been proving for years that overpaying stars means no cups. Use the funds to flush out to team at all positions.

No need to resign Stoli for that long, Dostal is almost ready.

I like Bear, if we can get him for that I'm all for it, but probably not pay him quite that much.

True on the Stolarz front unless we trade Gibby. But you cant tell me that Zegras, Matthews, Terry, McTavish and Bedard (yes insanely unlikely) in the top 6 wouldnt be insanely entertaining

Although any type of Matthews contract probably does strain the team in resigning all of the talent on entry level deals, but we can dream

If Verbeek is smart with the cap and can afford Matthews when he hits UFA I’m for it. In a few seasons we should finally see a significant jump in the salary cap with the TV deal after the Covid issues are taken care of. Plus Matthews will a good age for a UFA.

Oh I'm sure he would earn the contract for the duration, I just don't support having a top heavy team the way Toronto does. I want enough depth and internal talent for a dynasty in socal, which is probably as far fetched as getting Matthews I know, but hey, a guy can dream.
