While I know there was a rumor that the Caps were in the top 3 of teams Kane wanted to go to, I can't see Washington making a move like this after bringing in Brown and Strome, and MacLellan was and has been quite hesitant to deal 1st rounders. It's an interesting idea, but I don't see the Caps going for this.

Based on the Giroux trade this is probably a 1st rounder too much and McMichael is too good a prospect. 2023 1st, Leason, 3rd, Eller is more in line with what I expect the return to be.

I’m not following the McMichael part. Do you just mean WSH won’t consider trading him?

Sorry should've been more clear more meant that Giroux returned a 2024 1st and Owen Tippett. I consider McMichael as of now a better prospect than Owen Tippett was at the TDL, so I would expect a Kane trade to require the caps to give up less. Eller + either a 2023 or 2024 1st + Leason or Alexeyev or Johansen or Johnson or Krebs level prospect is what I expect the baseline of a deal to look like. McMichael, Lapierre, Protas, Miro definitely out of the running IMO for a rental, and Iorio is very borderline. I would also look at the Shattenkirk deal from a while ago as a framework with a 1st and Sanford being the main pieces going back to STL.
