I may have overpaid for Brodin a little but I want him a lot and I don't think this is too far off in value. Obviously Nylander might not make the team right out of camp, in that case I'd move Moulson into his spot.

Additionally, this makes next year's cap situation very interesting, but I think I made it fit.... http://i.imgur.com/nzrGsOg.png. And if the cap goes up, we have a bit of a cushion.

Edit: I think Beaulieu would still be a RFA if he signed a one year contract so my chart is a little off, but I'd let him walk or trade him at the deadline with Guhle coming up.

I would definitely think twice. I'm not a fan of this deal.

Just wondering, what part don't you like? I'll explain my reasoning from Minnesota's angle.

First things first, this clears around 5.25 million in cape space, enough to easily re-sign Granlund and Nino, as well as all the lower cost RFAs you've got due. I haven't looked to closely at the Wild's numbers, but it might even give you enough space to replace Haula.

Kane is a 25-30 goal scorer when healthy, and can completely take over games when he's playing well. He forechecks hard, hits, fights, and just gives it his all for every second he's on the ice. He's got that edge to his game that in my opinion Minnesota is lacking and would be very useful come playoff time. Downside is he's a rental and likely will walk after this season.

8th overall is self explanatory, and should land you a genuine blue chip prospect tomorrow. Bailey is a solid RW prospect that is just about ready to break into the league. For reference, he's the same age as Alex Tuch and put up slightly better AHL numbers than him last year. He'll replace Tuch in the pipeline.

It might not change your opinion, but that was my thought process when coming up with this proposal.

I see where you are coming from. I just don't think the deal really fits very well with our roster and we would probably lose the trade in the end.

Kane doesn't fit into our roster. We already have 4 top9 LWs on the roster so adding another is problematic. He is also is injury prone averaging about 65 games/year over his career. I know Buffalo fans say otherwise, but there will always be a stigma following him about character issues. Also, like you said, he's basically a rental.

Bailey has some talent but doesn't wow me. He seems pretty comparable to Tuch at this point based on AHL numbers. His advanced stats aren't good. Based on a little research, it seems people think he needs a bigger role to be more productive. That's not something we can do at this point. Unless we have a bigger trade go down, the top 6 is fairly locked down for the next few years. Being a year older than Tuch hurts him a bit. I think Tuch was probably the number 5 offensive prospect in our system. Replacing him with a similar player would be nice but it wouldn't kill us if we didn't. Seeing as Kane is most likely gone in a year, Bailey becomes the centerpiece. I don't think I would do

The 8th overall is somewhat intriguing. I'm honestly so checked out of this draft that I'm not even sure what would be available in that range.

If we're dealing Brodin, I want it to be for a young, gamebreaking NHL forward. He is an integral part of our defense and we've repeatedly struggled without him in the lineup. I wouldn't try to package him with Pominville to dump cap. I would prefer to move Scandella or Dumba before even thinking about trading Brodin. He most likely gives us more value playing for us than what we'd get in a trade IMO.

Like I said, I can see what you're saying but I think it just causes more headaches more than it helps us.
