The canucks have had such a rough stretch these last few years and i feel really bad. The core has found very little success and it's starting to take its toll on the players, hence their terrible start to the season.
Bo Horvat is getting so much hate and it is so underserved. he has been the leader of this team for years now and has been one of the core peices for so long. I do think it is time to move on for both parties if this lack of success continues.
As far as the future, this team does not have a whole lot in prospects. Their top 3 as of now are Damila Klimovich, Jett Woo, and Mikey Dipietro. Aside from them there are not a whole ton of notable players.
The core over the last few years has consisted of Bo Horvat, Elias Petterson, Brock Boeser, J.T Miller, and Quinn Hughes. They have all had their fair share of highs and lows.
J.T Miller just inked a massive extension with the team which is leading fans from all over the league to belive he has been prioritized over the current captain, Bo.
I think that this is something that could very well happen but there are also some things that could be done to keep this core together.
This year is going to prove a lot for this young team and even show what some players futures will look like in the league. Here are some things I could see happening:
- Bo Horvat and the Vancouver Canucks decide to part ways. This is seeming to become more and more likely every single Vancouver Canucks game day. Tension is growing within the club and losing the trust in their fans. Last year there were reports of the locker room being torn in half, one side had Horvats way of running the room and the other had J.T Millers veiw on how it should be done.
The return on Bo Horvat would be quite nice for the team. they could probably fetch a much needed top 4 defensman and some futures to help their depleted prospect pool.
Guys Like Jakob Chychrun or Sam Girard could seem like options although neither are particularly great on the right side which needs the most work.
Some Right shot guys I think could fit are Damon Severson and Conner Murphy. Murphy seems like the most likely of the two as Chicago has finally invested in a rebuild. Horvat could be a great peice for the Hawks to build around while new Jersey already have Hughes and Hishier down the middle and some really good forwards in their core already.
- The team finishes outside a playoff spot and commits to a massive firesale
if the Canucks miss the playoffs even with their new managment the team could become aggressive sellers and fast. I think it is very possible they miss the playoffs which would lead to chaos. I could see Boeser and or even Petey getting sold at high prices. Also guys like garland, pearson, and hoglander could receieve some interest. Lets just hope they can manage to grab a spot in this competative division.
The defense needs a makeover. The left side does not look bad at all with Quinn Hughes, OEL, and then a mix of either Jack rathbone or Riley Stillman. the right side is a dumpster fire. While Myers is battling a short term injury and is on IR, there are no real top 4 guys besides him.
Tucker poolman
Noah Juulsen
Luke Shenn
Travis dermott
Kyle Burroughs
are the guys who rotate in on that side. id say when Myers is healthy it goes Him, dermott, and then Shenn with Burroughs as the 7th d-man.
This is kind of brutal and I was suprised when no moves were made to improve the group besides the recent trade that brought in Riley Stillman. Until they improve the Canucks can expect the same old results again and again.
Thatcher Demko is one of the few goalies I consider truly elite in this league. he has helped Vancouvers Shaky defense for years now. He has not looked great along with most of the team this year and needs to step up.
My favorite moves made by the Canucks this offseason were signing Kuzmenko and mikeyev who have looked deadly on pettersons wing.
In conclusion Canucks have a lot of good forwards who need to step up not only for their team but for the future of their careers. they need some work on the blueline but if they can overcome those two obstacles, this is a team that could make the playoffs.
heres what i think shuld be done:
horvat does deserve the hate, holds himself to a high standard and doesn't play to it
Jett woo and dipietro aren't our top prospects
Our top prospects are Rathbone, Lekkerimaki, and Klimovich probably

I chose not to count Rathbone as a prospect which I guess he is and Lekkerimaki slipped my mind thank you.
the canucks should’ve traded miller and horvat and revamped the window around hughes/petey/demko. i get why they wanted to keep miller and why i’m sure they’d like to keep horvat but changes clearly need to be made to get them to the next level and petey/hughes/demko is a really good core
