Description
I commented earlier today on a post about moves Toronto could do if Muzzin goes on LTIR for the year. I disagreed with their move but my suggestions for them gave me an idea I wanted to try out here.

I think its agreed upon that Toronto could use a player like Muzzin on the back end: net clearing, big, with more of a focus on D than O. I thought Carson Soucy would be a good pick up for them. He is known for his physicality, but he's not a black hole offensively either. He also has experience playing both sides on D. Its hard to guess what the market will be like but I'm willing to bet that if Soucy is healthy and continues playing well he could get as much as a 2nd round pick. PLEASE do not get too worked up on the return for Soucy, I am not a NHL GM in March 2023 so I am just doing my best. I'd think a top 4 d-man means at least giving up a 2nd round pick, and probably some sort of player/prospect. I'm imagining it similar to the Nick Leddy deal of a 2nd + Walman. Obviously, moving Holl would help them but I don't know if his NTC list would have Seattle or not.

I also think Toronto will look at a goalie option since Murray is....Murray. Assuming he is out the rest of the year on LTIR they have some room for a rental. I think a potential James Reimer deal would not be out of the question or bad for Toronto. Reimer has been pretty good for San Jose, arguably one of their better players. The market for goalies is tricky, but considering David Rittich got a third, I am going to use a third round pick for this trade. If you don't like Reimer, then I would say other possibilities are slim. Adin Hill maybe but I imagine you'd give up more for him. Someone like Brossoit hasn't even played this year. I imagine Martin Jones would be seen as a lower tier goalie as well. Stolarz maybe but depends what the Ducks are doing at the TDL. The Sharks are basically openly selling, so I think Reimer is a good fit for this year.

I didn't do any moves for the forward group because I am unsure what the feeling is around them. I looked at a few players and curious on your thoughts. For players that would be more bottom-6 I thought about Nieto, Bonino, Sedlak, Girgensons, Fischer, Bjugstad, Derek Grant. If you were looking for more skill/offense then maybe Kuzmenko (if Vancouver blows it up. May be too much though), Gus Nyquist, Athanasiou, Domi. These are all possible with the cap but obviously some easier than others (last three especially difficult). I think Kane and/or Toews would be too much and too much competition. MAYBE Toews, but I think that could go the way of Foligno. I would avoid imo. Curious thoughts on the forward depth though.

I have the lines as they are listed on Daily Faceoff, except I plugged Soucy in for Holl, assumed Liljegren will return (please tell me if he is not expected back at the TDL), and Holl is now the 7th D. If you think they would have someone else up as 7D (Benn, Dahlstrom, Mete, etc.), then swap them and Holl in the AHL. I think they will have a hard time just getting rid of him between the NTC and general cap issues around the league. They can either use other assets to dump him (I didn't do this here, but an option), or use him as the 7D. You could also try to trade others that may have more of a market. Or, try to get rid of others through mutual termination or trade for futures such as: Simmonds, Hollowell, Gaudette, Benn, Dahlstrom, Mete. Its tough, but I was just doing this to discuss these trades, not try to be Dubas and deal with the contract situation.

Additional Details:
I would assume a prospect or player's rights gets moved too. I am not super familiar with TOR prospects so imagine this trade as: 2nd + player/prospect similar to Nick Leddy trade.

I think Soucy would cost them a 1st and more. Resigning him would probably be a challenge so I feel like they should just get someone with a 2-year term if they are giving up a 1st.

They probably will also want to keep Holl, wouldn't be surprised if he plays over Sandin or Liljegren in the playoffs.

Yeah good point, his value definitely could be up to a 1st after Chiarot last year. I just went with a 2nd for now because 1.) its the lowest pick I think you could justify trading with more pieces and 2.) I feel like its so hard for us to know what the silly market prices they decide will be in March. We all thought it was ridiculous to trade a 1st for Chiarot or OEL...and it happened. Resigning could be possible though. Holl money gone, Reimer probably gone or cheap, could dump Murray if needed or LTIR, very likely Muzzin LTIR unfortunately, Engvall, NAK, ZAR all up and Kampf too though they should keep Kampf.
