Description
In this scenario, the Caps finally get some health back, turn the season around, make the playoffs relatively comfortably, and end with a hard fought loss in the first or second round. Depth adds at the deadline. McMichael and Caps both decide change of scenery is better -- Duchene is coming off a good season and is playing well again this year but is 32 and has 3 years left at a massive hit, making him only cost McMichael without an extra first going out. He also can play center and wing, giving them options with how to use Lapierre. Bring back MoJo and Gustafsson as cheap depth that have proven they fit in. D remains pretty much the same, except going for younger Soucy rather than bringing back Jensen.

If I was the Predators, I wouldn't jump on that offer. Unless we decide to waste McMichael on that 4th line, we just don't have a place for him. I'd want a bit more for Duchen too.

Would there not be a spot where Duchene played / could he really not beat out Trenin, Tolvanen, Sissons? I know McMichael is trending down, but feel like the preds have a lot of older guys that have shown less in much greater roles ...

Duchene plays RW for us, so McMichael wouldn't be able to slot in there. The only roles I could see him playing for the Preds would be 4C or 4LW. I doubt he would be able to beat out Tolvanen and Trenin wouldn't be moved from his spot on the "herd line." The Preds love Sissons, so I doubt he'd win that role either.

If Duchene isn't an option would you do a similar style deal for Miller?

If the caps could get Miller for just McMichael I would do it. Really don't think they will trade their 2023 first in any scenario, so tried to think of guys that because of their contract would be gettable without moving that (like how Tarasenko was available basically for free last summer). While I definitely think Miller's value has fallen from this summer / last TDL, don't think its fallen quite that far to the point where Vancouver would take just McMichael for him, but maybe I'm wrong about that
