Description

Mid January is midpoint of season...by then it should be obvious what/who's working out...and who/what isn't.

Each forward line has a question mark- only time playing together will give the answer.

While Kreider might not "like" his 3rd line assignment- the idea is to roll lines 1A, 1B, 1C, and 4th...and he'll still have his usual PP assignment. Mentioning PP, I'd deploy PP2 first (except 3rd period when playing from behind). This would give Chytil/Kakko/LaF/Jones/Trouba 45-60 sec to tire out the opponent's PK before Pan/Kreid/Zib/Fox/Troch finish off. Idea here is to spread the wealth and give guys (like Fox) a rest. At best, PP2 finds some chemistry...at worst, PP #'s drop- but key players see less ice time as the season grinds along.

If ANA not interested in Reaves, waivers p/u could be any other team....if no team picks him up- he goes to Hartford. Idea here is to accumulate as much cap space as possible so that whatever is recognized as "not working" by mid season can be addressed by TDL

Good question...if any team wants him, I'm sure a deal can be worked out (as small as the return might be)....otherwise, as a waiver p/u he might have a little value to a team with cap space that's playing a lot of young players. I think the idea of a player like Reaves "protecting" younger players is overstated...but what is not is Reaves' commitment as a professional- a guy with minimal talent that has managed to do what it takes to make it and stay in the NHL as long as he has. Maybe a little of that can rub off on the young guys??

And if nobody picks him up- then off to Hartford. NYR still accumulate Cap...just not as much.
