Description
What is wrong with Petersen? Not following LA closely I was originally surprised when he signed this contract because it was a small sample size. Nis number this year are bad but what happened?

Do you think he will get claimed?
What is their plan with him?

Honestly, you are asking the $64,000 question.

Many attribute it to confidence, change in systems, decline in efficiency of our defensive defensemen, trying to do too much, etc.

The likelihood is, Cal Petersen needs a breather, he is hurting the team as is, so he more than likely continues to work with Bill Ranford and the Reign's Matt Millar to go into reclamation mode and regain his confidence (like what happened with Jack Campbell), while the Kings get some cap space to make some adjustments. On the off chance he is picked up off waivers, the Kings just gained a powerful amount of cap space to address goaltending next season.

My esteemed friend @tryger has explained it well. The only thing I can add is not to his comment but to yours -- Petersen's numbers haven't just been bad this season; last season was a disappointment, too.
